I kick myself that I skipped seeing this show (free tickets too!) on its original tour many moons ago, starring Carol Channing and Mary Mertin. Word was it was dreadful, but it was Martin's last stage appearance, I believe.

Joan is a diva, an excellent actress-writter and a great role model for women.

I didn't see the original either, but I've read the play (and it's revised version, too!) and it's horrible. Really, it has no reason to exist.

I heard the funniest line was only at rehearsals when Carol kept asking if Martin were going to keep doing her Ben Blue routine? LOL!

Lol. Just something I've noticed for quite sometime.

I figured you'd want to know.

I mean, with your taste being what it is, I figured you wouldn't need another strike against you.

you know...you are just plain rude. So I won't grace you with any more responses. And once I thought people who were into theatre had class.

re: Legends

lol - I can't believe they are doing this again. I worked wardrobe for the Channing/martin tour in Sacramento and it was soooo bad. The highlight was hearing Channing tell Martin - in that voice - "Well my dear - you can just go F*ck yourself".

I saw the Channing/Martin tour when I was in junior high, and even then I knew it wasn't good.

Diary of a Mad Playwrite was an extremely entertaining back-stage story of what went on behind the scenes between Martin and Channing as the show toured. It was penned by Jimmy Kirkwood of A Chorus Line fame. I can highly recommend it....but sorry I missed the tour in Philadelphia.

Legends is one of those plays that maybe would be good in stock and dinner theatres with a couple of names. It is weakly written and unworthy of major productions.

As first class or first rate entertainment it just doesn't work and is kinda, sorta, you know, well...embarrassing.

Certainly there is another vehicle for these ladies. How about "'Night, Mother"? Hmm...?

Any other ideas?
