I also realise I yelled at someone for not paying attention to what had been said when I myself had not paid attention to what was being said. That'll teach me.

Wow I hope Nathan gets better soon. When I saw the show Friday after Thanksgiving I was praying that Nathan and Matthew did not call out. They were fantastic together. Nathan is also very nice, he even held the BCEFA bucket at the door.

alright so if it's cancelled because Lane's understudy wasn't sufficiently rehearsed, wouldn't they have spent ALL of yesterday and today doing put in rehearsals for him? I mean, if Sienna Miller can pull off what she did with no rehearsal, surely Lane's understudy can come up with SOMETHING?

apparently they did rehearse all day yesterday and are also rehearsing today. Brad Garrett was the understudy with Gene Gabriel as the second cover. Rob Bartlett is now the understudy but just started rehearsals last week. Neither cover is fully prepared to carry show. This seems to be bad luck and bad timing although it's strange that Nathan and Matthew didn't have standbys (as opposed to internal understudies) from the very beginning. Then this mess would never have happened.
Hmm. That the new guy isn't fully prepared is just about acceptable, but for the second cover to be unprepared 4 months into the run almost is pretty shabby.

From what I know, the second cover has gone on for 2 different parts so far and he only recently was asked to be an Oscar cover as a backup. I think he's a bit younger than the rest of the guys. Perhaps when push came to shove, the producers just didn't feel right about having him carry the show. Again, it seems like a producer miscalculation. They must have figured"what are the odds" of Nathan being sick while we try and get new covers up to speed...
popcultureboy, I would just like to clarify. I said I blame the backers not only because they made the decision to cancel, but also because they were not prepared to have an understudy fill in. I think being unprepared and therefore having to cancel a show qualifies as both sad and pathetic.
But no hard feelings. I know *you* aren't the reason the production was ill prepared, and I could have been more specific in the first place.

How do you know if Gabriel was also sick or not? He very well might have been sick. I wouldn't jump to conclusions and say that he just isn't ready. Also, Rob Bartlett is also in the production, performing every night. I think it is acceptable that he is not ready after only finding out last week. He has to do his shows every night while also rehearse for Oscar.
Gabriel has been covering Oscar for awhile. There was no reason he couldn't go on, other than the fact that the producers probably figured everyone would ask for their money back.
Now that they've called Garrett back to play the role and he hasn't rehearsed it in forever I presume they rehearsed a lot for a day and then he went on.
Someone on ATC saw him on Sat night and said he was fine. I have never been able to picture Garrett in this role, but to each his own. I guess his name as a TV star would carry most of the audience so the producers didn't have to give anyone their money back.
