Sorry if I missed an earlier post about this, but has there been any concrete news (or even just talk) about a future national tour of Light in the Piazza?

What I have been told by a LITP staffer is:

The tour will begin almost immediately after the show closes at Lincoln Center in July. So it's therefore possible that some of the NY cast will go on the road.

They've already started booking cities up to a year in advance. There will be extended stops in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.

That's all I know. Of course, nothing is concrete at this point.

If they finally give David Burnham Fabrizio I will follow this tour from city to city like a Grateful Dead groupie.

I'll be curious to see how they translate that amazing set design for proscenium spaces.

Since the main characters in the show are from Winston-Salem, NC, don't you think they'll HAVE to bring the show SOMEWHERE in the Triad area (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point)?!??!?

Please?

I wonder if they wouldn't do better to do a smaller-venue tour and stay longer in each city than to do the large procenium theatres (Cadillac Palace, The Fox (any of them), etc). Personally I'd rather see it go to more intimate spaces like in the pre-Broadway run.

As for the set design changing to proscenium, keep in mind that the Goodman is actually proscenium. It has a very deep stage, and it's very high, but the width is narrower and the house is smaller. I always think of it as a box!

I heard that Vicki Clark will go on tour with the show...

The Ahmanson Subscription (LA) season will include LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. Michael Ritchie believes (and I agree with him) that Piazza will be a big hit in LA.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
