One of our community theaters is doing "Evita" in Concert. They are auditioning for ensemble and supporting roles only...the leads have been cast. They are asking for 16 measures of a song either from the show or "in the style" of the show.
Now, I could sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" or "Another Suitcase, Another Hall", but seeing that I'm not really an alto, and I'm definitely not 16, these are not the best choices for an audition piece.
Here's where I need your help.....give me a soprano piece "in the style of Evita". I can't think of one off the top of my head.....and something is telling me that my standby audition song "Many a New Day" is not going to cut it! LOL!
I agree, that you don't have to 16 to sing those songs.
Here's a thought and people will say this song is overdone, but it is a good choice none-the-less. "I Don't Know How To Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar, also by ALW. You may want to also look at "Everthing's Alright" for the same show.
Unfortunately the ones from JCS are too low for me......
Do you really think it's OK for a 34 year old to sing "Another Suitcase, Another Hall"? I love that song, but I'm just thinking that they'll think I want the role of the mistress and they'll laugh at someone my age singing it.......
Well, I always feel that you should never audition with music from the same show you're auditioning for. None-the-less people do it all the time and get cast.
But in this situation, I'm not sure, but your not necessarily audition for that part, just a part, so if it shows your voice, then that's what you want.
But, you are worried about that, try "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables.
Also, if the leads are cast the mistress might also be cast since there are only like 4 or 5 character parts with names in Evita.
