If they ever make a movie out of the show Shoshana Bean should play Tracy or Marissa.

Not gonna happen.

Producers learned from RENT...no names = no ticket sales.

And I hear they are considering a great up-and-comer named Akiva as Link Larkin.

Shoshana needs to lose a few if she wants to play Tracy.

I can't stand Shoshana (in any role) but that was mean.

After the box office intakes of both the producers and rent i think the movie musical is dead. So i doubt there is gonna be a movie of hairspray.

The movie musical isn't dead.

Ot else they wouldn't be making "Sweeney Todd," "Hairspray," and "Dreamgirls."

In every medium, for every hit there are a dozen flops. You can't strike gold every time. If producers just gave up after they had a flop, then they should get out of the business because it's a fact of life.

so, if the movie needs "names" who would you cast?

tracy: i can't think of a single "fat" young actress, unless they padded up scarlett johansen

edna: travolta, harvey, nathan lane, jack black

link: jake gyllenhall, elijah wood

corny collins: dick clark or john waters

but no matter what, it will not be "hairspray" without jackie hoffmann and her lips and teeth and eyes.

The original had Divine in her finest performance, an ace soundtrack of rare early '60's gems, Debbie Harry as a zit picking mom, and Pia Zadora reading "Howl". All the Marc Shaiman tunes in the world can't top that, folks. This one needs to rest.

The movie might be able to get away with a lesser known in the role of Tracy.

I'd still say they give it to Marissa because she people will recognize her from "Stacked."

Edna wise...I would rather not see Travolta have it because I feel he's just wrong for the part. (Personally I would give it to John Goodman.)

Wilbur: I know it was rumored for Billy Crystal but now that Shankman is directing (and we all know how many Steve Martin movies he's directed) I wouldn't put it past him to throw Steve in the role.

Motormouth: Again, I know Aretha Franklin was rumored for the part but, again, Shankman has a reputation with Queen Latifah and might give the part to her as well.

Link: I wouldn't be surprised if they wound up giving it to Justin Timberlake. Don't get me wrong, this is not MY personal casting choice, just how I feel things will go. I mean, the part is perfect for someone like him. It doesn't really call for serious acting, and we all know he could sing the songs.

Corny Collins:...Sean Hayes?

BorstalBoy, i agree with you 100%, the original movie is a classic - in 50 years people will realize how great it is. But the musical is a totally different animal, it shares only the bones of the plot with the movie to create something not very John Waters-ish and extremely sanitized for the masses.

I say Debbie Harry should play Velma again.

yeah, maybe marrissa could do it- besides stacked she had a supporting role in fever pitch...
and i like queen latiftah as motormouth- that would be pretty cool
for wilbur, either billy crystal or steve martin would please me
and for amber- maybe mandy moore, but i still think BECKY GULSVIG! :)

hope this comes out soon... cant wait to see it!

Billy Crystal- Wilbur
Sean Hayes- Corny Collins (maybe)
Queen Latifah- Motormouth (plus it would give the movie a big name)

Not nice. And I think she would make a wonderful Tracy.

From what I've heard of Shoshana's Tracy, her voice is way to powerful for the role. Plus, she's not the right size for the part anyway!

"Shoshana needs to lose a few if she wants to play Tracy."

You're just being sarcastic ... right?

Anyway ... I think that if there is going to be a lot of names in the rest of the cast, Tracy does not necessarily have to be a celebrity. After all, there aren't many "chubby" girls that can sing and dance that are well known in the business anyway.

I also heard that they don't want anyone over 20 to play the part (so Marissa would be out of the question.) I've also heard that Marissa is hard to work with, so they may not pick her because of that.

In my opinion, Shoshana is a great singer and she pulled off the role of Tracy. She was the second understudy though. Thats all I would want her to be. I wouldn't want her to be the full time Tracy or Tracy in the movie! I don't think that would ever happen any way. Shes not fat!! I happen to think Carly Jibson was the best Tracy I have seen and I think she would be amazing for the movie. Thats just my opinion. Does anyone agree?
