Who knew that the Tenacious D frontman loved showtunes?

Then, in the middle of one of his own sentences, he confesses he's lost track of whatever the hell he was saying.
"I'm sorry, what was I saying? I was thinking just now about how I'm going to see `Sweeney Todd' tonight. [The Stephen Sondheim musical thriller , a show Black says he'd love to do someday, is back on Broadway in a stripped-down, small-cast revival.] I'm psyched."

With that our 15 minutes are up, and Jack Black, closet show queen inside the soul of a rocker, makes jokes about "Miss Angela Lansbury," the original Mrs. Lovett in "Sweeney Todd."

i love jack black and i would love to see him in sweeny. i am just not sure what part.
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

ALL parts in Sweeney Todd require people who can sing.
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
That's great that he likes Sweeney. I knew he had some musical love when he sang "Heaven on Their Minds" on a Tenacious D concert (and was pretty darn good too).
Good for him. Will he ever be in it? Well after the Spears Sweet Charity fiasco, he might be asked. But I like him and he seems to have talent, he could be Pirelli, I agree.
Jack needs to make it to Broadway. He was BORN to take over for Norbert in DRS. I think casting him in a more serious role could surprise everyone, in a good way. The man clearly has chops, both singing and acting....and facial.
i'd actually cast jack black as the Beadle- but of course only until the brilliant Aexander Gemignani had left on his own accord for something wonderful. and i actually think jack black is a fantastic musician and singer. I don't know if he plays anything other than guitar, but one would suspect the piano and add that to his sense of humor- hence, the Beadle.
My Sweeney source told me he actually loved the show, gave it a standing O and went backstage afterwards to tell compliment the company. From what I hear, an absolutely lovely lovely man.
