They'll probably get Golden Globe noms (since most movie musicals get Globe nominations, regardless of their quality), which could boost box office a bit, but probably not much. I doubt the film with get any Oscar Nominations.
And we need yet another thread about this because. . . . . .
Most movies, even Harry Potter dropped over 50%. Existing Thread
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
it may have dropped 50% but it only went down 2 spots (it was #2 the day it opened but #5 for that weekend) so #7 is still better than phantom was doing at this point as i recall
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
It's weird. In terms of ranking, Rent does much better during weekdays than weekends. Last week (on weekdays), it consistently averaged around 3rd and 4th.
"Das Gegenteil von Krieg ist nicht Frieden...sondern Schöpfung!" - German Mark Cohen
"Yeah and most massively promoted movies that make $10 million dollars in their opening weekend are ginormous bombs. Good luck!"
Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron dropped her second box office bomb in two months on Sunday as her superhero saga "Aeon Flux" earned just $13.1 million during its first weekend, opening at No. 2.
No. Harry Potter made money. Did you skip math at school? No, but I do know that there are long-term business plans that do include dvd distribution. While it may not be doing as well as everyone has hoped, it's not as big of a turkey as you keep spouting it to be.
"Some of us have it worse, you know, Dana. Some of us are dating lesbian men. Okay? C'mon."
I have said it will make money in DVD's and in the future. That is obvious. It is a flop on the big screen. Did you skip reading in school too? ( I have not had my coffee yet.. I promise.. the bitch level goes down after my second cup)
A drop of 54% in the second week is just....it makes me want to cry a little bit. I don't see a comeback from that. I mean hell...only the 2nd freakin week! That just screams box office flop, which sucks incredibly.
I'll go cry now, not only for the film, but for the actors and especially Chris...they all must feel pretty terrible. On the other hand, we know how powerful the message of the story is...so maybe it's not a cinematic masterpiece. But WE get it. WE know there is heart to the film, even if outsiders don't see that. Jonathan's story is living on, and not in a bad way. So F that...it IS a shame the movie is doing poorly, but ...damnit, it has heart. And maybe it will have a comeback...we can all hope.
Hmph.
"I would rather take a flawed movie that has as much heart and passion and life and joy and energy and truth in it as this film does over any film that is completely perfectly presented and perfectly constructed but has none of that heart and life." -Anthony Rapp
