"Your Woman" by White Town#0

Remember the song "Your Woman" by White Town?
Does anyone know what it's actually about?

My friend who thinks it's a man who found out that his girlfriend was secretly a lesbian.
I thought it was a guy who found out that his boyfriend was secretly straight.
Our other friend is convinced that it's about a straight relationship that didn't work out, through the eyes of the woman, but being sung by a man.

Any ideas?

No ideas here, but I always liked that song. And, I guess it was kinda cool hearing a guy sing that!

Alright, I found the lyrics online.
Looks like my friend with the lesbian theory is wrong (since it's being sung to/about a man.)
What do you guys think?

Just tell me what you've got to say to me
I've been waiting for so long to hear the truth
It comes as no surprise at all, you see
So cut the crap and tell me that we're through

Now I know your heart, I know your mind
You don't even know you're bein' unkind
So much for all your highbrow Marxist ways
Just use me up and then you walk away
Boy, you can't play me that way

Well I guess what you say is true
I could never be the right kind of girl for you

CHORUS:
I could never be your woman
I could never be your woman
I could never be your woman
I could never be your woman

When I saw my best friend yesterday
She said she never liked you from the start
Well me, I wish that I could claim the same
But you always knew you held my heart

And you're such a charming, handsome man
Now I think I finally understand
Is it in your genes? I don't know
But I'll soon find out, that's for sure
Why did you play me this way?
Well I guess what you say is true
I could never be the right kind of girl for you

(CHORUS)

Well I guess what they say is true
I could never spend my life with a man like you

(CHORUS)

sounds like a song from a gay guy to a "straight" guy.

I have experienced that song quite a few times! re: 'Your Woman' by White Town

I really like this song. Actually, it was written for a woman to sing, but supposedly they couldn't find a vocalist they liked, so the White Town guy sang it himself. We could look for gay innuendos in it, but I don't think that was the intent (the rest of their album deals with straight relationships).

I used to love that song. I never understood it though. The chorus lyrics always confused me.

Sorry, let me rephrase that: written for a woman to sing.

[edit: oh wait, I DID write that. So yes, it was written for a woman. Yah, I don't get it either.]
