That's what MATTRESS is all about. The funny, not-so-typical princess comes to the castle and surprises and charms almost everyone (especially Dauntless).
It seems like a great role for her.
Now ... the real question is ... who would be Queen Aggravain? Harriet Harris anyone?
Itty Bitty Geisha?
Toyland?
Gypsy Pasadoble?
Just a few popular favorites...
I am currently in a production of OUAM, having a great time playing King Sextimus.
I'm thrilled about the TV film idea...but who to play the King?
I know he's too young, but he has TV awareness and would probably be a good marquee name, but I'd love to see Michael Richards (Seinfeld's "Kramer") do the part. But not opposite Burnett.
I am sure Marissa will now be typecast. She will be offered the same type of parts.

that take our breath away."
"Life isn't about how to survive the storm,
but how to dance in the rain."
What about Michele Pawk as the Queen? Though Carol is a great choice too...and Harriet Harris. So many to chose from. I guess since it's for TV Carol would be the best choice. She's a ratings grabber.

On Friday, Barry screened a copy of the 1964 TV original, with Burnett (perfection personified) Jack Gilford (ditto) Jane White (ditto...the shows most delicious performance) and the adorable lil' cutie Joe Bova as Prince Dauntless. Elliot Gould played the Jester - he was OK, but not much more than that.
Originally broadcast on CBS in black-and-white , and directed by Joe Layton, it has a wonderfully home-made charm about it. The sets seemed to be made out of construction paper and plywood. And you forget what a fantastic belter and singer Burnett was. I'd love to see the 1972 color re-make with Wally Cox (I assume Dauntless) Ken Berry (as the jester or troubador) and Bernadette (as the Queen's lady-in-waiting).
I hope this is cast well, and I think Marissa will be fine (albeit very differnt from Burnette's gangly original). I gotta admit... Carol's queen will have to do a LOT to be able to top White's delectably over-the-top evil drag-queeny magnificence. For the King, I think there is only one person who should do it - Bill Irwin.
I finally saw an episode of that gay ABC sitcom (since cancelled) this week and all I have to say is Harriet Harris was just AWFUL in it. Terrible. She should never eat lunch in Hollywood again.
carol burnett is producing it and wanted marissa soon after hairspray opened, and this time around carol WILL play the queen...no speculation on that part. I think marissa will do great, and it will introduce her to a bigger audience, maybe then she will be offered different types of roles.
