There's probably a post about this already, but I'll ask again lol. What are the greatest love songs in Broadway history. Ok, I know that may be a bit too much, so I'll narrow it down. Whats your favorite love song (or song announcing love, see my choice, below)?
Mine would have to be Miracle of Miracles from Fiddler. I don't know why, but everytime I hear it I love it more (its one of those songs that I love in high school productions, too lol)
I was going to make a post like this, eventually, lol.
GIMME GIMME from Thoroughly Modern Millie ALL I ASK OF YOU from Phantom of the Opera
- Those are two of my absolute favorites. Here are some more I like:
PEOPLE WILL SAY WE'RE IN LOVE from Oklahoma! TIMELESS TO ME from Hairspray SUDDENLY SEYMOUR from Little Shop of Horrors I TURNED THE CORNER/I'M FALLING IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE and JIMMY from Thoroughly Modern Millie edit 8/4/04( I keep thinking of more!): IT TAKES TWO from Hairspray
"We like to snark around here. Sometimes we actually talk about theater...but we try not to let that get in our way." - dramamama611
I like "I turned the corner" from Millie. I just think it's so sweet. And "As long as your mine" from Wicked. I just like when she says "For the first time in my life I feel....Wicked"
I think "If I Loved You" as well....there is a part on the cast recording where he says "You look up at me with that little kids face..." or maybe it's "young kids" and the intrumental behind it just makes me tear....its so gorgeous. I also love "So Many People" from Sondheim's Saturday Night. And ofcourse "not a day goes by" Also on the Stephen Schwartz Album , Marin Mazzie sings this medley of "Gifts of Love" with "With You" from PIPPIN and its so lovely. I like "CLoser than Ever" from Bombay Dreams and Happiness from PASSION.... OK im done
in my opinion, the defintive recording of it is by Nancy LaMott -- one of the best cabaret performers and interprators of the AMerican Songbook to have graced the earth. If you have not heard any of her recordings -- GET THEM! You will not be disappointed. SHe also does an amazing cover of "With Every Breath I Take" from Cy COleman's City of Angels -- (FAB show)
"Sir K, the Viscount of Uppity-shire...." -- kissmycookie
So in Love~KISS ME, KATE Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)~PARIS Do You Love Me?~FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Losing My Mind~FOLLIES (not sure if it counts) Johanna~SWEENEY TODD Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?~CINDERELLA
"One no longer loves one's insight enough once one communicates it."
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.
Johanna is the most powerful in many ways love song in sweeney except i think Pretty Women have a little more gonig on and its just like dahh kill him sweeney!
Johanna is just so creepy sometimes(judge turpins) and so dreamy (anthonys)
"Look on the Bright Side
Not on the Blackside
get off your backside
shine those shoes!
This is your golden opportunity:
Your the lightning and the news!"
-Assassins
I *love* "Johanna." And I love "Send in the Clowns" because it's so bittersweet. Here are some more of my favorites: "Unexpected Song"--Song and Dance "Your Eyes"--RENT "Jimmy", "Gimme Gimme" and "I Turned The Corner"--TMM "Not While I'm Around"--Sweeney Todd (if I get married, I am playing this at the reception) "Without Love"--Hairspray "Losing My Mind"--Follies "Being Allive"--Company "I Get A Kick Out Of You"--Anything Goes "That Face"--The Producers
"Unworthy of Your Love" from ASSASSINS is my all time favorite. Then I guess... "By The Sea" from SWEENEY TODD is very much a love song, as she is describing her ideal accommodations with Sweeney. Of course, "All I Ask of You" from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and "You Are My Home" from Pimpy 3.0.
