How about someone that can sing the role better? I imagine that they'll be bringing in another Hollywood name though along the lines of John Travolta.

Michael Riedel mentioned Ricky Martin a week or two ago. He'd be able to sing it but I think it should be someone in their mid 40s to better look the part.

I heard Ricki Martin also. John Travolta.....nooo (although then Barbra would come to see her friend in the show). lol

I would say Josh Grobin, but he's a baby. In 30 years give or take a few years, he can be in another revival of it.

Ricky Martin has knocked back all Broadway offers in the past six years - first to concentrate on his cross-over career, then to take time off, and finally with the answer that he would ONLY consider an original new role (if any) on Broadway sometime in the future (one would expect after his film career was launched...which still hasn't happened).

He is not at all interested in a revival or replacement role.

He has been offered a higher salary than anyone in the history of Broadway theater and still says "no" at this point. One producer offered him a $500,000 signing bonus alone - and offered to totally rewrite a very famous Broadway musical role to suit Ricky with new dialogue and songs to make the role Latin - and the answer still was "no".

That's not to say he won't eventually return to Broadway but don't look for it to be replacing someone else.

Besides he has a new English-lanuage CD and tour to get launched after the first of the year.

What would be wrong with Travolta? If it ever actually happened, I think he would be great... He's charming, he can sing it, act it, and is actually Italian. (First Italian in the role since Sergio Franchi?)

Travolta- gag me now. When do you think Antonio is going to leave? When is Melanie done with Chicago?

what about some of the Iglesias (sp?) family...not the baby bro, but the older two...I also think John Stamos could do it. Right look, boyishness, not a bad singer...

Sounds like another Caberet type situation here. Just keep bringing on the headliners. But Caberet is a much better show to do it with.

Is the rest of the cast leaving when he does or are the lovely ladies sticking around a bit longer?

Laura Benanti will leave earlier because she's going to be in the play "The Violet Hour" starting previews on October 16.
I am also curious about the other ladies especially MSM. Isn't Chita also going to do something that starts in January?

If Miss Krakowski randomly disappears and is missing in action, *looks around innocently* I didn't do it! I swear!

*goes and slips on her Carla get up* But hey, since I'm wearing the costume and all, I could always fill in for Jane until we find her!!!

"Lady of the Spa" Deidre Goodwin leaves mid-July to headline CHICAGO opposite Melanie Griffith. Probably not one of the ladies you had in mind....

i send my deepest sympathies to deidre. She is great in Chicago, but the poor woman has to share the stage Melanie "Antonio is my husband so don't look at him and isn't my tatoo cool" Griffith. Oh well, she will look a hundred times better than her normal amazing self next to Melanie, so.....

There's only one person who could carry the show once Antonio leaves...Regis Philben!

OMG DOLLY!!!! You are just one big riot tonight! Can you just see it...someone says something and he becomes hysterical on stage! And then he looks at Laura and says..."Who wants to be a human being!!!" No, I'm kidding!

I hope whoever replaces him doesnt have such a thick accent. I had a hard time understanding Antonio. I would go with John Stamos as well. Judy Kuhn could replace Laura Benanti, and how about we get Heather Headley back on Broadway to replace Deidre Goodwin!

love to see Heather in anything, but if Claudia was almost too small, "Our Lady" is out of the question for a tyro like Heather. I know what you mean about the accent, but I was surprised by how well I could follow Antonio. Even on the OCR the patter song is very tough to understand (Julio). That's a challenge.

Yeah, that part is definitely going to an up and coming actress... no Tony Award winning actress would ever be considered for Lady of the Spa, LOL!

I dunno...there's something about Judy Kuhn that makes me feel like she's the wrong type for Claudia, especially for this revival. They're probably going to cast another younger actress for the role to keep in the tradition of Laura.

And believe it or not, after comparing the two cast recordings, a lot of Antonio's words are easier to understand than Raul Julia's, especially in 'Contini Submits.' (I always thought it was "Where is my day? Where is my night?" until I heard Antonio and realized it was "Venice by day! Venice by night!")

What do you think of Judy Kuhn replacing Mary Stuart Masterson? Now that would work.

Here's my replacement cast list...keep in mind half of these people probably wouldn't accept the parts.
Luisa- Judy Kuhn
Clara- Laura Kennedy (?)not sure how you could get anyone as sexy and talented as Jane.
Claudia- Melissa Errico
Liliane- Caroline O'Connor
