Speaking of Canadian television...

Did anyone here watch "Kids of Degrassi Street"/"Degrassi Junior High"/"Degrassi High" back in the 80s? It used to come on right after "Ramona".

And does anyone, by any chance, (longshot, I know) currently watch "Degrassi: The Next Generation" on the-n?

It's really a wonderful show. I have a really pathetic addiction to it. I don't get the channel at school, so whenever I'm home I feel the need to watch it like crazy. Unfortunately, the only other person I know that watches it is my Canadian friend Justin, who refuses to admit that he watches it in the presence of any of his too-cool-for-junior-high-soap-opera friends.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

Haha okay every Canadian kid born between the late 70s and mid 80s grew up watching Degrassi and all it's variations.
And although few would admit it, if we're channel surfing and the Next Generation is on, we'll tune in. Come on- Spike's still there!
Ah Canadian television.....the difference between the new show and the old is that now they're using ACTUAL actors, in the early days they just used normal kids, because they figured this would "reach" the average teenager better.

My little sister and her friends watch Degrassi: The Next Generation, on Noggin' all the time. The kids on that show have some major issues, I don't even have such problems in college. Must be a Canadian thing.

Well I actually work on Degrassi some times when there are stunts & stuff. Most of the kid performers- this is their 1st gig so not sure what "trained actors" you refer to ( the adults all are) Interesting side note: the actor who played "Yip" on the old series is now the 1st AD on Next generation.

The first time I got to second base (under the clothes touching, in my playbook) Degrassi was on my TV in the background. Never saw it before or after, but I remember that fact above all. It was like 3 in the afternoon, and the girl stopped everything to watch it. Then we went back to it afterwards. That's my only (and strange) association with the "Degrassi" franchise.

Holden: So, uh, what do you wanna do tonight?

Banky Edwards: Mmm, get a pizza, watch "Degrassi Jr. High."

Holden: You got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama.

Banky Edwards: I got a weird thing for girls who say "aboot."

The very attractive Jake Epstein, who plays Craig (I'm only like 3 years older than him, so I don't think it's wrong to think a minor is attractive. Even if he can't drive...), was on "The Zach Files" back before Fox Family became ABC Family. And he was in a Disney Channel Movie called "Quints".

The girl that plays Hazel was in the Disney Channel movie "Cadet Kelly" with the annoying Disney-pass-around-kids Hilary Duff and Christy Carlson Romano.

I'm not from Canada, so I don't think I've seen the work of the other actors.

But I've seen far more episodes from this show than I'd like to admit.

For those of you who are not in the know:
Joey, Caitlyn, Spike, Snake, and Mr. Radditch are all on "Degrassi: The Next Generation". Also, Spike's daughter, Emma, is one of the kids that currently attends Degrassi.

I live close enough to Canada (and watch enough Degrassi) that I think I can make a fair assessment of "about".

The way most Canadians say the word "about" is not "aboot".
It's closer to a cross between "a-boot" and "a-boat".
Quite the crazy dipthong.
I personally really like it.
It's kinda hot.
It's definitely different from the American "ahb-OWT"

I love teh fact the new Degrassi series is not afraid of taking on gay teen issues and include two gay teen characters on the show, who, I hear, are suppossed to become involved a bit this season ( the shows air a year or two late in the U.S. and I remember reading an article in The Advocate )

Yes. There are gay characters.

An unseen character, Ashley Kerwin's father is gay, and he didn't come out until after he was divorced from her mother. This all happened before the show starts, but they bring it up a lot.

Marco is gay, but he hasn't told everyone yet. Some of the characters are having a hard time adjusting to it, but some are very accepting. Kinda realistic.

Paige's older brother Dylan is openly gay. He is a fairly new character. There is a great deal of foreshadowing that he and Marco will date.

(If you are from Canada, please do not post spoilers about season 3, as it has not yet aired in the USA!)
