Sorry to post this here, just have a question for everyone (or anyone who uses Internet Explorer as their default browser). Has anyone's startup page been different, now advertising something for spyware? Iwon.com is usually our startup page when I click on Internet Explorer, some page comes up with a bunch of pop ups. Here is what appears on the main startup page:

IMPORTANT SECURITY NOTICE!

Is your computer suffering from any of the following symptoms:

1. Has your browser's START PAGE changed?
or 2. Are you seeing a recent increase in annoying POP UPS?
or 3. Have PORN ads appeared in your browser or email?
or 4. Has your computer been acting wierd lately?
or 5. Is your Internet slower or even crashing?
or 6. Do you think your computer may have a virus?
or 7. Have new programs or toolbars been added without your permission?

If your computer is experiencing any of these symptoms...

It is almost certain that "spyware" has taken over your computer,
and the problems will only get worse quickly. Plus your sensitive
information like credit cards and all of your passwords can be
retrieved by criminals all around the world. This is a very scary
problem that needs immediate attention! You NEED to get this fixed now!

Click on THIS LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE #1 BEST SPYWARE ELIMINATION SOFTWARE
and your computer will be back to normal and secure again in just a
few minutes.

If anyone is having problems, please share them because I don't know what is going on!!!

P.S. It can't be a fake ad because our startup page has changed and these windows keep popping up! And almost all the things on the list are true for us...

do not respond to the ad. that is what it is. just reset your start page to iwon. somewhere in your internet travels, you opened a page that had that ad attached to it & it changed your computer settings. if you change your security level choice, that probably wouldn't happen.
good luck!
stupid ads.
grrrrrr.
It's hot and it's monotonous. I want my glasses.

If you don't already have it get Ad-Aware (it's free), it is very good about detecting spyware on your computer and deleting it. Also run your antivirus program to be safe.

I get that exact same message every so often, and just reset my homepage back to what I want it to be. My computer came really close to crashing a few days ago.... something's up with a lot of things installing themselves onto it. I just installed a new internet security program onto it, so hopefully some of the bugs will be cleared up.

I haven't been able to get on the net for 2 days because my system is so messed up. I have McAfee but it didn't seem to help. For every pop up I deleted, ten more poped up.

I spoke with one of the computer guys at work and he said to get Norton because it was much better. I really didn't want to spend that kind of money with my trips coming up but I need to be in touch with the people I'm going to meet with. I really didn't want to have to get new computer right now.

I got the whole internet package with the firewall so I hope everything is ok now.

I did notice the same pattern. I've been getting tons of porn stuff in my e-mails (how they got my address, I have no idea) and ads for stuff. I guess I clicked on something I shouldn't have on one of them but I try to delete them.

My problem is I talk to so many people on the net. When I see an e-mail from someone I don't think I know, it can be someone trying to contact me via e-mail. I have to open them to see if it's a real message. Sigh. Why do people think it's funny to mess with someone elses computer?

One other odd thing. I have Road Runner and I had AOL. I find it strange that this happened one day after I canceled my AOL because I never used it!

update update update! Keep your anti-virus updated as well as MS Windows-XP. If your IE homepage has changed, just change your desired home site in Tools/Internet Options/General.

also get Ad-Aware as son of gunn points out!
