Deborah Cox Killed It her first night and she is going to continue to Kill until her last day of her performance. Also, for the record, if Aida only has popstars (Little FYI: Toni Braxton, Michelle Williams, and Deborah Cox are popstars, they are rnb stars)then that means that everybody else just didn't fit the role like they did. So stop Hating and Start Congratulating!! Deborah if you read this, Keep doin' the dang thang, Holla!!
Ten people from NYC have sent me e-mail raving Deborah Cox on her turn as Aida so far. I'll check the show Fri evening, 02/27/04 & perhaps once more before the show wraps. That show is starting to generate a lot of buzz again, and not due to "star" casting but to the stellar performances of the entire cast, excepting former teen idol. This is good news indeed!
I thought you meant she was "killing it" as in the show. But I'm glad to hear she is doing well. I'm going this Sunday to the matinee, and I will probably catch her understudy, who I hear is brilliant! I'm excited!
I saw Aida on Deborah's first night- I liked her a lot. I was afraid it was going to be one of those horrible pop star "hey let's try acting on Broadway" sort of things, but she was good. She sounded the teeniest bit sick (like near the end of "Gods Love Nubia") - anyone else there notice that? The audience was really responsive and seemed very into it.
I also thought you meant "killing it" like ruining the show..I'm not very up on my slang...
Anyone know if she's performing the Saturday matinees? I know that several who have played the role over the past few years have not done the Saturday matinee. Thanks in advance for any info.
Wow, have you ever seen so many marketing shills...er, I mean...fans about a new Aida before? Funny and *surprising* that we've never had posts from any of these posters before. I especially enjoyed "Niki" trying to differentiate between a popstar and an rnb star. Gee, now I'm convinced.
Good for her..............I love Deborah Cox. I hope this helps open more doors for her. Her talent as a singer is amazing. I'm thrilled to hear she can act too.
Well, you typed 'these posters', therefore i didn't know if you were or were not referring to me. Yet and still, your comments came (are coming) across a bit 'stank', and it's really not necessary.
why are you posting here when this is obviously a thread for Deborah Cox fans? And by the way; I saw the show last night. Deborah Cox was amazing. I liked her even better than Heather Hedley. Those anyone know when her official opening night is? I hope they are smart enough to re invite the press. For anyone who hasn't seen the show; it is pretty mediocre but yet entertaining. Now is a good time to see it with a sterling peformance. YOU GO GIRL!

You wouldn't know who Deborah cox is Unique because she's a "never quite hit it big", RnB diva wannabe, that got her first deal back in the EARLY 90's and was meant to become the next Whitney Houston. Clearly, that did not occur. So now she's playing Aida, good for her. Clive Davis HAS to continue to promote and pump her up because he's the one that's been pumping all money/time and effort in to her 10 year old, struggling career. I'm sure she's a perfectly lovely Aida. I was being "stank" to the sudden shills. Btw, theatermafia, watch your language, that would be considered abuse, if I cared enough to report you, but I don't. Oh, and it's "bastard" if we're going to get specific. Unigue, i'm sure you've never heard of "Tamia" either, but she'd make a great Aida for all the same reason's that Cox does.
Al Dente - How many number 1 songs have you had ? Deborah had seven, and just recieved here 8th ... hmmm ...what a bad career she has, huh ? I feel bad for her and Clive Davis. How many number one's did you say you had again Al Dente ?
According to my copy of "________________'s Greatest Hits," (*I* won't reveal people's real identities on this board), Al Dente has had 10 number 1 hits. So, Deborah has a little catching up to do.
Personal attacks notwithstanding, several friends & colleagues that are as knowledgeable about both musical & stage plays as anyone on this board currently have remarked that Deborah Cox is doing a fabulous job in the role Aida. They were also brutally honest in their assessments of her two predecessors who just didn't cut muster. Is "Aida" the best ever musical staged on BWay...no. But is the favorite of at least one poster, CRP2000 and Ms Cox is my personal favorite entertainer. I'm struck by her humility, natural beauty, good nature, and the fact that she stands out in the R&B world as someone who really can sing well live. If you search the archives of her website http://www.deborahcox.com, you will never encounter a thread in which she maligns a fellow artist of any genre. By all accounts, the woman is a fine wife, mother, entertainer, and first class act.
