Can you think of any show that would stack up well against Sweeney Todd by those metrics? smiley

Thanks fanatic. No Justin Cooley saddens me however.

Well that Tiny Desk concert just made my Friday! Great song selections.

I absolutely love that arrangement with backing vocals for Father Time. Would love to see them record and release that at some point. I wonder if it's from an earlier iteration of the song or if Jeanine and David did it just for this.

Jeanine is also just so sweet and funny. Loved all of her bits in the vid and her dancing in Great Adventure!

Saw it with Justin. Really enjoyed Miguel and would love to see him in the show. Anagram just gets me choked up every time I listen to it!

That Tiny Desk Concert was a real treat  - great selections and what fun! Love Jeanine, she's so cute. Justin is amazing in the show but Miguel now perks my curiousity and would love to see him as Seth! I wonder what happend to Justin not making it?  This also made my Friday. Show is so deserving of the Tony for Best Musical. Cast is perfection!

The book, rather than the music, was my favorite part which is pretty rare. Definitely think this works better as a play than a musical, as the music didn't add anything to story other than (a little) more humor and (a little) more poignancy. There didn't seem to be any reason for it to be a musical instead of a play, and the music wasn't great enough for me to forgive this.

Definitely glad I saw it since it's up for best nomination, and certainly worth seeing, but I am glad I rushed and didn't pay full price tbh. I saw Some Like It Hot that night and enjoyed myself much more despite its flaws.

Listen to the album recording it will make you want to see it again and especially with Victoria Clark's Tony deserving performance! See it ''This Time'' with her is a must!

I saw the show before the cast recording came out and liked it, didn’t love it. Now I can’t stop listening to the cast recording and I’m loving the tiny desk concert. I’ll have to go back soon…

I ended up winning lotto tickets for tonight’s show. First row center orchestra at the Booth is fantastic…

Anyway, I’m so thrilled I was able to go back after seeing the show this past fall. I enjoyed it so much more now that I’m familiar with the music. The cast is top notch; Victoria Clark is just incredible. Shoutout for Jim Hogan who was on as Buddy (I guess a last minute switch as there was no playbill slip and no mention of an understudy on the cast board in the lobby; only an announcement at showtime).

Truly weird how it seems like Steven Boyer is just out more and more frequently

I assumed it was common knowledge that Steven and his wife were expecting another child any day now- and today she arrived!

What!? No! That's not common knowledge to me!!!! Congrats to him!!! What an insane week for your baby to be born!!! I wonder if he'll be taking any substantial time off (is there paternity leave on Broadway?).

However much he is out and continues to be out, luckily Buddy is in good hands with Jim Hogan!

Hey y’all, question:

I saw this show pretty early in previews at the Atlantic (3rd!) and I was incredibly bored. My friends have all loved the show since then (especially the broadway production), and I was wondering if anyone had a solid idea of what had changed? I come up to see theatre in NY semi-regularly, but I’m having a hard time stomaching seeing a show I was that bored at without an understanding that it’s ~different~ than when I originally saw it.

Still rooting for the show to do well at the Tonys because yay original musicals, it just was not quite interesting enough for me to see it a second time when I have other stuff to see!

I watched an interview with one of the cast members (don't remember which one)- they said very little was changed from the off-Broadway run. If I remember correctly, they said that the only major addition was the act 1 closer  (which is now "This Time"KIMBERLY AKIMBO Reviews, and more ice skating.

Well deserved win for the no-question Best Musical of the season. It's a better Broadway with original musicals like this one!

Yes, congrats to the show. It will join the cluster of "niche" shows like A Strange Loop and The Band's Visit of shows that won the Tony, didn't make money, and will likely close by February. That's just a fact. The show has rarely broken $600K weekly and I'm sure it costs at least that much just to keep the lights on. Will they get a bump from Sunday? Probably, but not a long lasting one. David Stone who produced Wicked has deep pockets and wanted that Tony. Well he got it at the expense of his fellow investors. Hope it was worth it.

I believe The Band’s Visit recouped.

The Band’s Visit recouped within 11 months. From what I’ve read, Kimberly Akimbo’s weekly running costs are about $400k a week - and the show has $2 million in reserves that they haven’t had to touch yet. I think it will definitely run longer than A Strange Loop.

Akimbo is at 237 performances. They are 7 weeks away from from surpassing Strange Loop's 293. I'd say it is basically certain that that will happen.

Sadly, you both are wasting your breaths. I thought that screed sounded familiar, and sure enough, Jumpin_J posted the same thing in the NY Times Tony Voters Poll thread before the Tonys, where it was pointed out that The Band's Visit recouped. Clearly Jumpin_J does not care about facts, despite proclaiming something is one (but isn't).
