I know that there is already a 'watching on Netflix' topic but feel that this series deserves a thread of it's own.
It's sweet, moving, sensitive, adorable and addresses in a completely non-histrionic way of dealing with sexuality and growing into whoever you might already be, wishing to become or just willing to be able to respond to others as a person without judgement.
I was not aware of the graphic novels on which it is based so I watched it fresh and not knowing anything so no pre-judgement more a revelation.
The Charlie/Nick situation has joined me most mornings since viewing as I power walk for an hour at 5am as I recollect my life of 77 years and the comparisons between now and then. We all have our own book inside all of us but this book/series belongs in every school for every child, and their parents to gently show, without sex or nudity, the road to understanding each persons unique sexual identity.
There will always be complaints about depictions of characters whatever their gender but settle in and go along for the beautiful journey told around the diverse, searching, questioning characters that will all give you many Heartstopping moments.
My heart just sings with joy for the world that waits for these remarkable boys and girls, and others.
This really is a beautiful show. I'm so, so glad it has gotten so much attention and acclaim!
I'm sure I can't be alone in watching this, as an adult (49 years old here), and feeling kind of cheated out of the kind of experience the protagonists have in this series. I never had a chance at young love; it was just not possible within the bounds of my upbringing and education. That makes me mad and jealous; but I still greatly admire the series.
If you would like a little fantasy let your imagination go to whatever place pleases you---imagine this is Nick and Charlie, young adults, singing[to each other].
I'm sorry that I can't do it for you so you will have to find on youtube----Tom Hier and Steffan Hughes "For Good'.
One more thing - it occurred to me, when I watched the series a second time, that the main pair of actors would be pretty perfect for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
And I think it would be the perfect story set to music, more melodic and less screeching. Well perhaps Elle could have one of those. There is already Matilda and Jamie but there are so many moments throughout this story that are perfect for a song. If only I had that talent.
Heartstopper is honestly the most wholesome and adorable Igbt+ series I have ever seen. Alice Oseman has created a fantasy world where leaves and hearts swirl at a glance, and sparks fly over a simple touching of hands, and yet it feels so real because as a teenager that's exactly how it felt. There’s no drama for the sake of drama and conflict is resolved through open and honest conversation. I can only imagine how different my life could have been had there been a show like Heartstopper when I was in school.
I have read the graphic novels, and if there is a season two, my concern is that season two will be a bit heavier than season one. Season one covered volumes 1 and 2 of the graphic novels and volumes 3 and 4 center on topics surrounding mental health and that may not be what fans of the series will be expecting.
Also, how long do we have to wait for Heartstopper the musical?
Filling up my own thread--what an ego but having not yet read the novels[on order from my library] I worried that the continuation of the series would break the spell of the 'perfect' relationship.
Nick is older so naturally would go on to a different college and perhaps develop a heterosexual attachment leaving Charlie to deal with still teenager feelings.
Yes, they have to grow up, experience hurt anxiety sorrow etc etc and without doubt find other loves in unexpected places.
Do I dare want to see that happen[or read about it first]?? Be brave SweetLips22, it happened to you all those moons ago so read on and discover where this brilliant author leads you...No spoilers please.
This show was so cute and wholesome. I really enjoyed everything about it even though I'm a millennial so it is not really for me in terms of audience. I watched it with my 13 year old niece and she adored it and was rooting for Charlie the whole time. Really great for teens unless, like, your parents were in DC on 1/6/21. Other than that? Everyone should watch this show.
I just find it hard to binge anything anymore. Just binged out. I watched this whole season in 3 days. Excellent, excellent show. So glad they have renewed it.
