I actually was reading about how it's interesting and great to show a straight drag queen and how it sort of tears down the toxic masculinity idea, and I think that's pretty cool to see!
Everybody in my RPDR group thought the second premiere episode was the "B"-level queens of the season (with the exception of Angeria, who we loved). We were universally more excited about the group of queens in the first premiere episode.
Looking forward to seeing them all together this week!
This season, 14 queens hailing form all over the country strut their stuff for the chance of wining the $100,000 cash prize and the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar. While the roster of newcomers features queens coming from notable drag families, Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race will also tout a couple of firsts – including the series’ first straight contestant and first queen from Michigan. This season’s queens are Alyssa Hunter, Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Bosco, Daya Betty, Deja Skye, Jasmine Kennedie, Jorgeous, June Jambalaya, Kerri Colby, Kornbread “TheSnack’ Jeté, Lady Camden, Maddy Morphosis, Orion Story and Willow Pill. Following the Season 14 premiere, the tell-all after-show RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked (0.48) was up in the 18-34 demo from the last premiere. Additionally, the premiere garnered at least 413,000 social media engagements, marking Friday’s #1 most social cable show, VH1 said. Drag race trended worldwide in top 5 of Twitter for three hours, peaking at #2 during airtime RuPaul’s Drag Race is produced by World of Wonder productions, with RuPaul serving as host.
I thought it was a little weird how a lot of the Queens kept saying that they had never heard of a straight drag queen. Barry Humphries immediately came to mind with his drag persona, Dame Edna. Now I know that Dame Edna isn't ALL that Barry does (he even voiced Bruce the shark in Disney's 'Finding Nemo'but he played the character for literally decades, on TV and stage, and the character even had her own talk show. Heck, the character even has her own backstory. Maybe the Queen's just aren't familiar with his work since he's more known in the UK. But he's straight, has been married several times and has several kids.
I know Dame Edna - she's been on Broadway - but I'd NEVER had thought they were straight. So I don't think that's any surprise. That said Matty is very...boring. Her drag is fine but it's not exciting or new or interesting. I'm glad is being shown, but eh. Glad we all got the queens together but it still felt very us vs them so more excited for next week when they hopefully drop the first week vs. second week idea.
LOVED last night’s episode. I even warmed to the two eliminated queens coming back. Daya Betty (Diabettica) is a delight.
This season May still belong to Kornbread, but Willow really is proving to be not just a strong competitor, but a strong presence on the show itself. The moment between the two of them with Kornbread helping Willow warm up and finish her pinning was heartwarming.
I’m impressed overall with how charming and polished most of these queens are. The casting team picked a great combo of personalities this season. Other than June, I really didn’t want to see anyone go yet.
June is the only queen this season that I’ve actively disliked so far. Found her attitude off-putting and her sense of fashion… suspect (seriously, why can’t she figure out how to keep her clothes from falling off/apart?). Maddy is boring as sin, and the farthest from Drag a drag queen can get, but at least she comes off sincere and like she wants to be there.
Great season so far, even if episode 2 was a little ho-hum. I’m excited to see them take on their first acting challenge to really separate the wheat from the chaff.
Orion should have been sent home again immediately when she said her look was a Heathers reference and she had a GOLF CLUB! I’m kind of surprised they didn’t have Orion vs. June part 2 but that’s probably admitting those queens shouldn’t have come back. Willow Pillow for life!
"Pardon my prior Mcfee slip. I know how to spell her name. I just don't know how to type it." -Talulah
Miss Pillow is everything. I’m happy everyone else agrees that Maddy is just plain boring. There’s only so much mileage they can get out of her being “the straight one” and I think her time on the show is almost near an end.
Great episode all around, I'm really enjoying the entire group of 14 queens. Willow Pill is giving everything and I'm starting to become a fan; her, Angeria and among some others are ones I'm paying attention to. Also did Daya Betty actually eat a dead dragonfly or was that fake for shock value? Either way it was entertaining to see the reactions to that weird moment.
Here for the Willow love, but I'm all about Kornbread, and her and Willow was just so cute and Kornbread just seems like such a lovely human.
Maddy is hella boring, she's giving me Aidan Zhane this season. Her drag just isn't interesting.
June said she's a stylist but just liking brand names does not make you know fashion...
I wish they had made the two other queens coming back a bigger twist or something. It felt so like "oh yeah those first episodes don't matter so anyway..." Like make them lip sync and then keep them or something.
I really enjoyed this episode as well. I'm super glad Daya is back, I think it's clear she has a lot to give. I would have put her in the top three over Jorgeous this week (who was fine, nothing special). I'm Team Angeria for now, but Willow Pill and Kornbread are also incredible. Great group of girls, so excited to see more from them all (especially the ones who have got less screen time - Lady Camden, specifically).
I keep going back and forth between my favorite queen being Willow, Angeria, or Kornbread. I'm mostly on Team Angeria so far but I definitely change by the minute. Exciting to be in a season where the frontrunner isn't so obviously clear from the get-go!
Great challenge and rightful winner. Angeria is one to look out for, because she is absolutely EATING these girls so far. Willow isn’t far behind. Kornbread has some catching up to do if she wants to stay at the top.
I think the wrong queen was sent home. I love Kerri, but if we’re looking at performance + runway + lip sync, Alyssa won easily. Especially the lip sync. They really tried to make that money gun glitch a thing, and it was nothing. Not that I saw Alyssa going much further, and Kerri is better story and more fun to watch, but the producers’ hands were really showing on this one.
Alyssa very well might be a fierce Queen but i don’t think this type of competition is right for her. The producers clearly opted for the girl with the better soundbites.
Angeria is hilarious and beautiful but her aesthetic is reminding me way too much of Jada, that it’s almost distracting.
Also, Kornbread has a LOT of opinions on how people should feel or act and this episode and Untucked show that it’s going to get old extremely fast if that continues. People are allowed to feel and act how they want to without having to police themselves to appease her.

I think Kornbread voices what’s on a lot of the other girls’ minds. Yes, that might come across as policing, but I think some of the queens need to be checked more often (especially the younger ones who think they’re something and a half). And, frankly, this is how queens act in a dressing room. I think she says what she says articulately and with grace, rather than the place of annoyance she COULD be coming from.
I get that and maybe what’s-her-face should learn to listen more when speaking but that whole “you need to put your pen down and listen” thing while she was taking notes really rubbed me the wrong way. Then it became one Queen doubting themselves and policing even speaking so as not to upset Kornbread. Maybe it was different there in person but on tv like i said, it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Kornbread is an actress. She's going to give us good TV. She knows what she's doing.
I loved this challenge. But I think both the bottom queens were wrong. Like Orion's Story was so bland and just filler this whole episode. I really liked both of the bottom queens and kind of shocked they were there given there's so many other filler, boring queens.
I really enjoyed this episode, and the main challenge was very memorable. Big congrats to Angeria, who in my mind, was the rightful winner this week. If this quality keeps going, this could be one of the best seasons of Drag Race that can possibly sit side by side with the best seasons of the series.
I think Angeria and Willow are by far the two strongest queens of the season, and I can easily see both of them making it to the finale. I totally get the Angeria/Jaida comparisons, but Jaida is one of my all-time top favorite queens, which is maybe why it doesn't bother me so much, ha.
Kornbread came out strong with the first few episodes but completely rubbed me the wrong way this episode. There's a line between saying what everybody else is afraid to say versus gratuitously policing others' behavior. I thought she completely stepped over that line into the latter and I found it really obnoxious and rude.
I listen to a great follow up podcast "Drag Her" and the host has said that he's was asked to submit new ideas for runways, challenges, etc. So it seems like they are actively trying to do new things so this could be an exciting season with new interesting challenges.
