The Temptations rock the Imperial Theatre once more tonight, as Ain’t Too Proud resumes Broadway performances. The Tony-winning jukebox musical welcomes back its entire pre-shutdown cast, while introducing five new understudies and swings. Nik Walker, James Harkness, Jawan M. Jackson, Matt Manuel, and Jelani Remy play Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, David Ruffin, and Eddie Kendricks, respectively.
As previously announced, lead producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman have stated that reopening night of Ain’t Too Proud will serve as a special gala performance.
Who’s bringing the sunshine on a cloudy day (or as the forecast says, a rainy evening)?
Speeches by Nik Walker, director Des McAnuff, and ensemblist Taylor Symone Jackson (who has been with this show since 2016). Onstage appearances by Tony-winning choreographer Sergio Trujillo, set designer Robert Brill, costume designer Paul Tazewell, and Otis Williams. Several OBC members in the audience, as well as the stars of the forthcoming national tour. Williams is turning 80 on the 30th, and as an early celebration, the cast serenaded him with a harmonious rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday."
