Was he on the way to a meeting or even a pre-rehearsal session with WCarlyle re The Music Man?

A good, old-fashioned lack of non-white people.

Keep in mind that Diana was already, built, loaded in and teched. For The Music Man to do something like this they would have some significant expenses to incur at this point, such as actually building the physical production, loading in, and teching. Not that Rudin couldn't try to do this if he worked out the right deal with a distribution platform, but it's definitely a big hurdle that would need to be cleared.

an even bigger hurdle would be that if Jackman had wanted to make a movie, he would have made a movie.

Good point!

Hugh Jackman has time and again expressed strong reluctance to releasing videos of live performances.  Despite petitions submitted to producer RobertFox for TheBoyFromOz to be filmed, the request was ignored. The same thing ocurred when there were strong requests for his arena tour of BoyFromOz in Australia to be released on video...and despite that the show was being filmed  during the show for purposes of projecting it on the big screens alongside the stage. More recently, it was suggested to him for his recent 90-show music tour ( which sold over a million tickets) to be released on video and he refused again.

During a 92Y session with Prof Annette Innsdorf --
In principle - he reiterated this reluctance because he thinks it fails to capture the essence of a live performance. He said that each show is different because the rapport with audiences is not the same time for every performance.

Fortunately for this revival of The Music Man, Rudin has deep pockets co-producers ( Geffen and Diller) and they may be approaching the revival, given the changed circumstances, with a different strategy.  Prior to the pandemic, there were already 2 lab sessions (the first one was almost a month-long and the last one in February was for 2 weeks and already involved Jackman who had just then completed filming his latest movie Reminiscence).

Let's just wait and see how their strategy for opening the show develops.

I guess when he started his international theatrical career in the revival of OKLAHOMA! in London, he didn't have much of a choice wink

But that was an initiative from Trevor Nunn that turned out to be very successful. Despite the effort to make it look like a filmed live staging, it was actually filmed on a sound stage like a movie. They had the benefit of perfect capture of image and sound...and had chances of retakes while they were doing it. This  process ( which took around 2 weeks, iirc, was completed while they were awaiting transfer of the show from the RNT to the West End) was part of the Special Features of that video release. However, at that time it was shared by the camera provider ( I think it was Panasonic) that the total cost to produce the filmed production for the video release was around $ 4 million ( and that was in 1998 ).

Did you get your performative ally cookie for this post? Let me know if you need the BIPOC community to send you more!

People of this board - just know, not all BIPOC theatre-lovers think in this way. Not everything with white leads is bad.

Wait, are you assuming that I'm white or acknowledging that I'm part of the BIPOC community? Regardless, not sure why you felt compelled to come out of lurking to respond to a comment from 5 days ago remarking on the subtext of comments on how "old-fashioned" or "traditional" this revival is.
