Ben Crawford said in Episode 3 of "Face Off" that he wasn't allowed to show his makeup on camera. Is he just playing this for laughs or is he really not allowed to do this. If so, who is making him do this and why?

Probably management, but I’m intrigued as well, because if you watch previous phantom vlogs they do nothing to hide the makeup

it seems word came down from on high a few years ago that actors are no longer allowed to show the makeup on social media (even though there are official production videos that show it, so I am not sure why) maybe they want to try to limit exposure to the public before they see the show?

there is also a shot in the program of it so I am really not sure why this is.

I had no idea he was doing a bwaycom vlog! So cool and thanks for sharing! I just watched the episode and I couldn't tell whether what he said was true (since he seemed to be joking a lot during the episode) or whether he just wanted to wear that stormtrooper mask.

Also, does John Riddle wear a wig in the show when he performs as Raoul? In the vlog it looks like there's something on his forehead.

That is makeup. It’s like makeup that makes you look old, for the first scene when Raoul is an elderly man.

The internet has basically turned into people just hating on things, so I wonder if they were concerned about non-professional pictures showing too much detail / rough edges of the makeup. I love the makeup, but it is VERY theatrical and was created to be viewed from at least 15 feet away.

Makes sense! When I saw Phantom I thought it was a different actor in that first scene when Raoul is 70+ years old. Didn't realize it's the same actor just wearing makeup to make him look older! lol on me.

This makes a decent amount of sense...however, like people have said previously, why start mandating that now? I remember earlier vlogs/behind-the-scenes videos where the actor playing the phantom showed their makeup and the whole process with Thelma Pollard in the chair.

saw the show over the weekend, and it seems its all because after 30 odd years they have changed the makeup quite a bit.

Even from what is in the souvenir program.

Personally I think it was a change for the worse, before it looked more convincing as a natural birth defect, now it looks more like a birth defect combined with a serious injury as it looks much more bloody with a bone sticking out his cheek. also the piece on the forehead although designed similarly to before, it is far too symmetrical (with the gashes) to come off as naturalistic.

so to sum it up, personally, it looks really fake now, like some halloween store item. (and this has nothing to do with the talented people who apply it night after night, after all they can only work with what they have) the design of it is where I have an issue.

Why change it if it was fine for the past 31 years?
