I'm not sure I got your post right, PatrickDC, but there are several videos of the curtain call on youtube including Santino as Dottie

True, but I was referring to a video from below the stage after he takes the lift down and quick changes from Michael to Dorothy. Santino said there is “an army” under the stage. That’s what I’d like to see.

I have always assumed it is difficult to impossible to choreograph good numbers to lousy music.  I blame the composer as much as the choreographer in that case.  On the other hand, I have seen shows with good to great  scores and lousy choreography.   That I blame solely on the choreographer.

The opinions seem to be all over the map when it comes to the quality of this musical. For me, the major issue I had with it is that it seemed to miss the point of the film completely.  The film's Dorothy realizes that you cannot and should not try to fill a woman's shoes.....the musical's Dorothy is just conning people for his own personal gain. I think that's the big problem with this adaptation.....the WHY was missing.  And this is another film to musical idea that really ISNT a musical. The WANTS don't really sing. It's a miss from conception for me.

The book by Robert Horn is funny in spots, and the principals deliver it well, but it is in no way a TONY winning book to me....that being said a musical book is one of the most complicated structures to make work in the drama biz and most books to better musicals barely work if you examine them closely.

Fontana and Cooper have ZERO chemistry which also keeps the love story from being believable enough for an audience to root for. Cooper is stunningly beautiful and has a wonderful voice, but is not an actress and really has no biz leading a musical like this.

The other issue is that its just so ho hum in all the other departments. There really is no score here, sorry Yazbek (but I remain a HUGE fan)....this is connected to the fact that it just isn't a musical story to begin with, but oooof does this score annoy more than it thrills.

The choreography is probably some of the most uninspired and plain ridiculous I've seen on a Broadway stage....it tells almost no story.  And the set is the cheapest looking I've seen.

One also wonders if the director was inspired by the story at all....it is paint by numbers pedestrian and that's being generous. And I have to say, if this is the talent level of a broadway chorus in 2020, eeeek, a couple of the gentlemen could barely do the steps.

It's closing for no other reason than the fact that it is not a fabulous musical.  It will do great in a regional setting though, so the creators will definitely make their money on this.
