#1Question - Experience with Discount Codes

After using discount codes to purchase theater tickets for Broadway shows for years, I finally encountered a problem.  I wonder if anyone else had a similar experience and if they were able to resolve it.

I was waiting to purchase tickets to A CHRISTMAS CAROL hoping to receive a discount.  On November 3 I purchased a ticket a full price thinking that given the limited run and holiday them, no discounts would be offered.  Yesterday I received an email from Playbill offering a discount and the discount would apply to the seat I purchased for the performance date I selected (November 27).  The savings would be $70 - a decent amount of money.  If it was a matter of $20, I wouldn't pursue it.   purchased my tickets through Telecharge and called them this morning asking if there was a way I could apply the discount to my purchase and was told no.  I realize there is a no refund policy, but I wasn't asking for a refund.  Has anyone been able to work around an issue like this, and if so, how did you do it?  I appreciate any advice.

I don't think there is a way out there. Usually, they are glad to exchange tickets, but the caveat was always that it had to be for the same price (or higher). It would open them up to a crazy level of calls if they started retroactively applying discounts.

Thanks.  That's what I thought.  It's just that I could have used the $70 to apply towards a ticket to another show.  If I had only waited a few days longer...    Oh well.

I have never seen a discount yet that let's you apply it to previously purchased tickets. There's just no reason anyone would ever want to do that. Think of it this way, if instead of a new discount being offered that lowered the price, the price had gone up, would you be contacting Telecharge to see if you could pay the new higher price? When you buy tickets early sometimes you get in before the price skyrockets and sometimes you get in before a great discount appears. It all evens out in the end.

have you considered putting up for sale the "full price" ticket (maybe at below face value) and then buying yourself a new ticket at the discount (if you can get a comparable seat on the discount....)

That's a possibility, but if discounts are available, I don't know how successful I'll be, especially if the discount is so much cheaper, people will have the opportunity to get tickets at the discounted price.  It's my own fault for not waiting until previews began.  I'll just eat the difference.  Thanks for the suggestion!
