Questions for you experts:

What is the projected state for open Broadway theatres for Spring shows? Is there any more space for a new musical? I was personally hoping for "Almost Famous" to make it to Broadway this season.

In case there will be an open theatre, are there shows other than Almost Famous would be vying for that spot?

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

Unless I'm forgetting something, I believe the only open theatres for the spring are the Neil Simon and Circle in the Square.

A newly revamped KPOP is rumored to be looking at Circle in the Square. Billy Crystal is said to be circling the Neil Simon. If the Crystal rumor has merit, then it seems like Almost Famous would need something to close in order to find a theater. I know that team was hoping for a spring opening, but real estate may dictate that they have to wait.

Available theatres this Spring:

Circle In The Square (KPOP rumored)

Cort (or renovation)

Golden

Lyceum

Marquis (possible – Almost Famous rumored)

August Wilson (possible)

The Neil Simon has MJ opening in July, so it could only accommodate a very limited run this Spring (and there had also been rumors of renovation). Unless Mr. Saturday Night takes the Marquis, I imagine the Nederlanders won't be producing it this season. But that all comes down to Billy Crystal's schedule.

American Buffalo, The Minutes, and Blue have all been announced without theatres; the latter two seem less likely than the former (which is cast with 2 stars).

I *believe* the Cort will also be open, following “Secret.” Please correct me if I’m wrong. The size would probably be desirable for AF, but the location may not be.

Additionally, if The Inheritance does not extend (currently only on-sale thru 3/1, both individually and for groups) I can see AF moving in on the Barrymore.

ETA: Ah, Ermengard beat me to it. Though, I will add, I think Almost Famous going to the Marquis is a horrible, horrible mistake for them. I’d love to see Mr. Saturday Night take the Marquis instead. Then, move Virginia Woolf to the Golden (where it belongs wink) and put AF in the Booth a la N2N. The Old Globe (where AF premiered) is a similar capacity to the Booth (the latter having 166 more seats) so I think this would be a smart move for them.

One hears rumors of The Minutes at the Lyceum.

In the name of everything holy, PLEASE renovate the Cort after Derren Brown closes.

carolinaguy said: "Playbill categorizes it as a Play with Music in their show listings. Most reviews referred to it as a musical. On the official webpage, they refer to themselves as a "show"."

Also worth noting that while IBDB credits McPherson with the “book,” in most places he’s given either a “playwright” credit or a “written by” credit.

To be clear though: I’m not predicting that the show will be eligible in the play categories. I definitely think the Tonys will consider the show a musical. I’m just saying that from an artistic standpoint (not an awards standpoint), it’s open for debate. And it seemed like McPherson might consider it something in between.

I truly read this as news that tootsie will close either in January when it's supposed to or pull a 2019 and wait til March.

I...I just can't help but wonder...will they have Tootsie AND Mrs. Doubtfire on Broadway at the same time?? Or could Tootsie close before Mrs. Doubtfire opens?
