Seeing the story about Angela Lansbury doing a reading of The Importance of Being Earnest caused me to wonder if there had been a musical version of the play.  (The play is probably in the public domain now)

So, I did find one - by John Sean O'Mahony and there's even a cast recording -

Does anyone know anything about this musical? Or if there is some new musicalization being attempted?

There was a televised musical of The Importance of Being Earnest around 1957 called Earnest In Love. It then opened off Broadway in June of 1960 where it received very nice reviews. The next day another musical opened off Broadway and received what you might call "respectable", but not great reviews. Its name was The Fantasticks.

Honestly the play is so wordy that I would only trust a really stellar lyricist to take something like this on.

I can't recall the creators of "Earnest in Love" but believe that some well-regarded writers (maybe they came well-regarded on later projects) were involved.
