Has anyone been to this event before? I'm planning to be in the city on Saturday and wondered what went on in Shubert Alley while the event is ongoing. Are there signings/sales like with the Flea Market? What's the general atmosphere like?

I went years ago. It gets crowded. Basically, It's a pet adoption event. Groups will bring the pets they have for adoption and people can walk around to those areas. At some point, probably after the matinees around 4-4:30, they start presenting pets on stage. This is where the Broadway folks come in. And as for sale items, they have a shirt and maybe a few other small items. This is definitely not like the flea market, except for crowds.

The event is held in Shubert Alley. It is from 3 to 630, but the rescue groups will be there earlier so you can walk around and see the animals as not every animal is presented on stage,at least I don't think they are. The Broadway stars present the animals around 5 to 630, between shows. It does get fairly crowded. Bernadette Peters is hosting it with Victor Garber, her Hello Dolly costar. I hope that helps.

No signings. The stars come on and off stage via a fenced off corridor. Get there early if you want to be close to the stage. They sell (crappy) programs for $1.

In earlier years they used to sell some Broadway items but not so much anymore. Bernadette would show up early and pose for photos and sign books, but appearing in Dolly will probably preclude her from doing that. Be prepared for the animals to grab your heart.

I was in the city today and passed by around 3;30. Purchases a signed Hello, Dolly playbill with BP and Victor Garber signatures for $40. My Bernadette Peter signed playbills are now complete! I returned to the area around 5;20 but didn't stay more than 5 minutes.

It was relatively crowded but I think mostly because Shubert Alley is not very wide. Excited about attend Bernadette's final show tomm. I'm heading in just for that.  I caught her on Kelly & Ryan the other day and she definitely looked really tired.

Thanks for the responses, y'all! We ended up going and I think we made the right call even if we didn't stick around Shubert Alley for too long (it was boiling hot even without considering the extra heat from the crowd). But it was cool to pick up the Playbill and see some of the actors who did pitches for adoption.
