Hey all -

Appreciate the help in advance. I impulsively bought a ticket to Ghost Quartet this morning (for the 10/26 Thursday show)... so I need to find 2 other shows on Wednesday 10/25 to make the trip from Minnesota totally worth it. Any suggestions? Here's some more info about me:

I've already been fortunate enough to see Hamilton, Waitress, DEH, Sweeney (loved them all) but am up for generally pretty much anything. I was last in NYC in April, so got to see Great Comet, too.

My first thought was to do the Wed matinee of Come From Away and the night show of In and Of Itself, but up for changing either/both of those if something better comes up. Has anything amazing opened since April, or is there something great I'm missing?

Thanks so much!

Josh

Hey Josh!

Wow, it's awesome that you were able to see all those shows! My recommendation would be to try to see The Band's Visit, it's supposed to be the next hottest thing. Also the underrated The Mad Ones (a Kerrigan and Lowdermilk musical off broadway). The Band's Visit is a little pricey while the Mad Ones (originally the Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown) should be a less than $20 ticket.

Good luck!

Definitely see Come From Away!

And if you can make Hello, Dolly! work financially, do it.

The Band's Visit is sure to be the hot new musical this season.  You HAVE to go see it!

I’d see Come From Away for sure. Made a visit last night and it’s is even better now than when I fell in love in the spring. The new cast additions are fantastic.

Ha, I'm in a very similar situation! I'm headed from the Midwest (Illinois) for the 10/28 GQ show. I got the Sweeney matinee for the same day. I was leaning towards Come From Away for the Friday night but wound up doing Band's Visit instead--I figured I know for certain that CFA will tour, and seeing one of the season's most anticipated shows in previews appealed to me.

If you got the time Wednesday morning - do Rush/SRO for Come From Away. That's a great way to see the show.

And don't forget Phantom's Thursday matinee!

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the suggestions - seems like Come from Away and Band's Visit are the consensus favorites. I haven't seen Phantom in FOREVER (and never on Broadway), so the Thursday matinee quickly made it onto my list.

Mad Ones looks really interesting, but it looks like it's not starting until November. Bummer - I'll have to catch it on another trip.

Thanks, Josh

Don't see Phantom on Broadway, the current cast is terrible (especially James Barbour)

The current cast is excellent and you will have a wonderful time.  Enjoy!

AND he's convicted of having sex with underage girls too

I won't see Phantom with him in a role, that is for sure

Here's my list for October viewing, in order, feel free to steal -

1. Torch Song revival @ Second Stage - Off Broadway, but with two of my favorite performers in one of my favorite plays.

2. The Band's Visit - the sneak previews and critics' reviews have been really strong on this one. There's a discount code available for preview performances.

3. Hello, Dolly! starring Donna Murphy

4. M. Butterfly revival - starring Clive Owen and directed by Julie Taymor. Probably going to be the most talked about show this fall.

5. When Pigs Fly revival - I'm a bit less enthused about it since I don't know anything about this cast but the show itself is really popular. Bob Mackie's doing costumes so there's that to look forward to.

6. Time & Conways - strong reviews from BWW members.

Optionals:  Too Heavy for Your Pocket - Off Broadway, per WhizzerMarvin's recommendation. Has strong word of mouth and excellent performances, by the sounds of it.
