Hi all,

Does anyone have any recent experience with the Hamilton cancellation line in Chicago? My daughter and I are going soon and want to get cancellation tickets but want to figure out what time the line usually starts. Any insights or advice is appreciated!

Hi Lisa- your best bet is to call the the Private Bank box office and ask. I live in Chicago and walk past the theater almost every day, I have never seen an out the door cancellation line. They might have a different process from the Broadway production. I did check the Broadway in Chicago site though and I found this:

"Even if the performance is sold out there may be tickets released just before show time. If tickets become available, they will start to be released two hours prior to the curtain for that performance. Only those who want to attend the performance will be allowed to purchase tickets. For those that wish to wait in line for “standby tickets,” there are no tents or chairs allowed in line; patrons may not swap out or hold places in line."

So it doesn't sound like the cancellation line is an all day thing like it is in NY. Also, not sure if you know but BWW has a Chicago message board https://www.broadwayworld.com/chicago/board/index.php you might find more helpful tips from people in Chicago there. Good luck!

Lisa (or anyone who has recently done the cancellation line in Chicago)- can you comment on how your experience went? My mom and I are hoping to do the cancellation line soon and are trying to figure out what time to get there! Thanks!

 Hello,

Yes, my daughter and I ended up doing the cancellation line in June. It was super easy for us. For example in New York we did it and we camped out at 3:30 in the morning but in Chicago we got there at 12:30 in the afternoon and we were still first in line. Apparently in Chicago it's not much of a thing. The nice thing is when we went in to talk to the Box Office folks they let us start the line and stay inside the lobby near the Box Office.

Basically, they start releasing the cancellation and any tickets they have around 3:30 PM. Probably the next people after us showed up there around 2:15.

I would read the et on the side of caution and get there around 12:30 or 1:00 and wait a bit.  I am not sure how many tickets they released that day. We got 2nd row center and they were $199 each.

Good luck and enjoy.

Lisa

Hi Lisa!

Thanks for the information! We did the line in NYC as well and I've heard such different things about Chicago. My mom and I are headed to Chicago this weekend to try the cancellation line for the 2:00 PM show! Planning to arrive around 8 AM, hopefully that will be early enough!

Best,

Megan

Personal experience for anyone in the future looking for Hamilton Chicago tix - we were walking by the theatre at about 12:15 Saturday and stopped inside to see if they had any cancelation tickets for the matinee. No line and we picked up two tickets in row F, 103 and 104. Great seats. The man at the box office said that they had just released the tickets a couple minutes prior.
