Bumping this thread now that we know for sure that My Fair Lady is producing some very strong work.

Apparently Norbert is on his way to another Tony. I think the biggest question is whether/how they'll petition the roles of Henry Higgins and Alfred Doolittle in Lead versus Featured.

^Related, do we actually think Ambrose has a shot of beating Lenk as some have suggested?

I really hope not. If she's great and deserves it, then I'll be perfectly fine with it, but I've been really hoping for Lenk since October.

I would assume they'd keep them separate (Higgins lead, Doolittle featured), but you never know. Even though lead actor isn't too packed this season, Butz is the clear frontrunner if he's put in Featured, whereas he'd have some competition for Lead. It'd be the safest choice to put him in Featured, IMO

So are we thinking that Norbert Leo Butz has the Tony in the bag at this point? I know that before, Ari'el Stachel was definitely the favorite, and I would still love for him to win...

Also, I'd love to see Etai Benson and Adam Kantor (pulling a bit of a Jonathan Groff move) nominated as well. Anyone else think this could be possible for either or both? I'd especially love to see Etai get a nom since I loved his performance and he's so adorable in real life as well.

We won’t know until the ruling comes out, but I believe Lane will be placed in leading with Garfield.

I, personally, would much rather see John Cariani get a nomination over both Etai Benson and Adam Kantor. Cariani's performance makes me laugh every time before utterly breaking my heart. I do agree though that of all the featured men, Stachel should take home the prize. (All that is moot, though, as it seems it's Butz's to lose.)

Agreed on everything here!

I thought Stachel was wonderful, but not award worthy. I thought Cariani was definitely the standout supporting performance. He was funny, but also heartbreaking. I still think Alex Newell is giving a truly incredible performance. He steals the whole show whenever he's on stage. This is definitely Butz's award now though.

Also, I hope they put Lane in supporting. He would totally win and his role is kind of supporting.

Yeah, I mean, in truth the sole undeniable Tony-worthy performance in the show is Lenk's. As long as she is recognized (and I still can't imagine she won't be), I'll be pleased.

So if Stachel, Cariani, Newell, and Butz all get nominated, who looks good for the fifth nomination? Grey Henson and Gavin Lee have both gotten some solid attention. Also Jelani Alladin has inexplicable support on the Gold Derby prediction center...

I think Gavin Lee might take that last slot, but Grey is still a possibility. However, I think Phillip Boykin could also slide in.

Personally I think it would be a travesty to see Tony Yazbeck lose out on a supporting actor nomination. I know the show will largely be forgotten by then (hell, it basically already has been forgotten), but I thought his "The Right Girl" alone was better than any of the other contending performances in their entirety, including Alex Newell (I haven't seen Butz yet)

I'm fiercely rooting for Phillip Boykin to get a nomination! I thought he was absolutely flawless in that role.

(I'm also rooting for Merle Dandridge to somehow sneak in there for Featured Actress in addition to Kenita Miller... she probably gets points off for not being with the show anymore, but I thought she reinvented Papa Ge in such a brilliant way. Crowded category this year, as always.)

100% agreed.

With it being such a light year for new musicals and no clear front runner in the choreography category, could this be the year we finally see Steven Hoggett take home a tony for Cursed Child which would be long overdue? Just the sheer volume of choreography that's in that piece over five and a half hours I think puts it on par with some of his best work.

The major contender for Choreography is Mean Girls, right? If so, Hogget has a shot.

I think there are plenty contenders for choreography: Once on This Island, Carousel, Spongebob, Mean Girls, My Fair Lady, and I suppose Frozen.

I have a friend who saw Mean Girls and she said the choreography wasn’t all that. She said it was very derivative of Book of Mormon.

SpongeBob? My Fair Lady? Not really. Carousel, well, yes, maybe.

There wasn’t a single critic who didn’t praise Christopher Gattelli’s choreography for Spongebob (at the very least the tap number for Squidward). My Fair Lady isn’t as much of a contender because it’s such a dance-light show.

Gee, doesn't anyone think ''Summer: The Donna Summer Musical'' will grab some Tony nominations? It's directed by a Tony winner (Des McAnuff), choreorgraphed by a Tony nominee (Sergio Trujillo) & stars Tony winner La Chanze. Opens April 23 at Lunt-Fontanne.

It got some pretty savage reviews out of town.

But La Chanze and Ariana DuBose got some pretty nice notices.

It was a hit at La Jolla Playhouse, where it was extended twice.
