Lol, this may come as a surprise to Kevyn Morrow, but your point is well taken.

I think Osnes is grabbing that fifth Best Actress slot. Interested to see what Brantley thinks (if it's even him reviewing)...

Variety and Chicago Tribune were the only ones that were mixed so far. Everybody else loved it.

Honestly, there is no 5th best actress slot. At this point, the only person locked in is Bette. I could see any of the others missing.

Meanwhile,it's the battle of the "Reviews' threads.  until the administrators step in and merge them?

You could see Patti not getting nominated?

Did you read each one of those "loved" reviews completely? I say completely?

This show may truly be the dark horse of the 2016-2017 season...

Yep. She's in a weak show, many say Christine is giving the superior performance and as we saw with Audra last year, name alone wont always get you in.

I have to agree with this. The rave reviews have me reconsidering my predictions for Best Musical.

Truly! I'll be honest and say this show wasn't on my radar at all. These reviews are making me reconsider a lot...

I'm interested to see how this could shake up the Best Musical race, with all these positive reviews. Could there be a 5th nominee now or could this bump down something like Groundhog Day for the 4th slot?

(The show must've really cleaned up after Paper Mill. I enjoyed it when I saw it there but it wasn't anything spectacular.)

The show has come a long way since Paper Mill. The director-choreographer has propelled the show like a fast moving train and the band music is often electric. I saw the show last Friday at one of the first press previews. I don't think the show is flawless but the cast performs with such conviction that I was totally taken in so I could overlook the rather shaky narrative at times. I agree with some of the reviews that you don't always have time to spend time with the characters. But I found this much more exciting that A Bronx Tale and War Paint.

I also think both Osnes and Cott deserve Tony nominations. The show may win the choreography award.

But I admit I liked the score very much when I first saw the show at Paper Mill.

I feel as though it could be a combination of the two for this year. I think Great Comet, Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away have the best chance of Best Musical. With these reviews, War Paint or Groundhog Day might lose out on the 5th slot to Bandstand.

It was strange to me that almost the entire cast is white when this show could have easily included actors of color without a problem.

Yeah, if there are 5 it will likely be this and GHD (I'm still not sold on War Paint's chances at Best Musical) but if there are only 4 it's a crapshoot.

Even if Bandstand can sneak into the best musical race, I don't think it'll get many more noms. Choreo, Osnes, and maybe Leavel and Cott? The book and score are receiving very mixed reviews and I think Groundhog Day is superior.

I've read two reviews that complain the songs are not that good. I don't agree. I know if Alan Menken had written this, the critics would have not said anything. The songwriters are not young but they are not a known commodity. I think the score captures the period well.

It would be the last musical of the season to be the dark horse. Lol.

Solid review from Isherwood. Too bad his opinion doesn't mean anything anymore...

The reviews so far are pretty much like I expected. Not at all bad but not the best and no outward pans.

I loved it at Paper Mill, saw it this past Monday night and thought it was even better. They have made some really great changes to the show, although maybe one or two songs they could have done without, and I do agree that the Rubber/condom joke were cheap and corny.

Other than that I thought it made significant improvements since Paper Mill. I could see it having a nice and healthy run if they pick up some Tony noms. It deserves a longer run on Broadway than say "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" which I thought was dreadful.

I'll definitely be going back to see it again and I'm looking forward to the cast recording!!
