I'm going to the Cheyenne Jackson concert with Laura Benanti tonight. I don't really know what to expect but does anyone have an idea of what he'll be singing? Not sure if this is a one off or if he's been touring with this.

I was at the concert tonight and I thought he sounded amazing.  He has a beautiful instrument and he uses it very well. He looks as handsome as ever. He was very honest about alcohol abuse, and talked about his husband and growing up in Idaho and is crazy family. I thought he was charming and in fantastic voice. He's a very smart singer. I love the way he sings jazz and pop. He is capable of producing really exciting music.

I don't really know what was going on with Laura Benanti.  To me it was very strange. Please someone tell me what they heard. I was about four rows from the back.  She wanted to sit on the edge of the stage. She wore a beaded long tight-ish gown. She got down on her butt and I think.... but I can't be sure, so someone please, please tell me what she said.... but I thought she said something about people being able to see her vagina. Making a joke. That is what I am pretty sure I heard, but I could be wrong.  Then she sang a'cappella "A Quiet Thing". She said it was her mothers' favorite song. Then she got  up and left and we never heard from her again.  She sounded lovely and she didn't use a mic. It still was an odd choice of a song.

I went last night and found it to be pretty lackluster. Cheyenne is a great singer but I honestly didn't need all the talking especially about his sobriety. It made him sound so arrogant and self righteous and really turned me off to him completely. The song selection was all over the place but everything sounded so jazz standardy and boring.

Laura Benanti was there for some inexplicable reason. As Curtains said she sang one song acapella while sitting on the front of the stage and then left. She did make a joke about the people in the front row seeing her vagina. She was honestly the highlight of the night because she seemed genuine and funny in stark contrast to Cheyenne's faux saintliness. I at least thought they would do a duet or something but nope.

Some of the songs I can remember off the top of my head were Stand By Me, an Ella Fitzgerald song, Besame Mucho, Edge of Glory, Falling Slowly, an original song about wine and some Finian's Rainbow song.

I have to disagree... laura seems goofy and a little tipsy. I don't know if she was, I am saying she "seemed" like it. Who would wear a long beaded gown and for her ONE number, decide to sit on the floor. She sand acapella without a mic... Kander and Ebb's "A Quiet Thing" ... and then she got up and never came back. It was very strange she never came back for at least a duet.

I think Cheyene has gone through a lot the past few years with his drinking. I wondered why he hasn't done anything since Finian's Rainbow.  Old Devil Moon.. isn't "some Finian's Rainbow" song... it's a brilliant classic of American Musical theatre.  His patter didn't bother me, and I thought he sang amazingly well. I loved almost every song he chose.

Still.. Laura looks like such a classy lady... for her to talk about her vagina at Town Hall was a bit tacky. it wasn't funny, it was crude and out of place.

I was there also and I found Cheyenne to be charming and upfront (most of the time) about his troubles the last few years. He had his sleeves rolled up were the tats still there because I couldn't see them.

As for Laura, I too found her one a cappella song with commentary very strange and she probably was there to try to boost ticket sales.

Cheyenne said he was touring and this was the last of the concerts. True or not.

Do the pearls break when you clutch them that hard?

I saw Cheyenne Jackson's Chicago concert last night and thought I'd pick up an old thread. He still favors jazz and blues. It's an odd fit as vulnerability is not his specialty. I'd like to see him mix some comedy into his rep but I'm not sure what songs would best suit him. He'd be a great Patrick Bateman if American Psycho hadn't flopped.

That gave me the best laugh I've had for 3 years.  Thank you.  I'm still laughing.
