I thought it was brilliant. Not perfect. But brilliant. Highly entertaining. The cast is really great. The production values are wonderful. It's a little crazy but I had a lot of fun. The score is wonderful. Ashley Kelley who played Bella is a star. Brandon Gill is so moving and competent. Yurel Echezarreta has a number in the first act which is flawless. After seeing Venus at the Signature, I think one place that Ms Childs goes off tract is that she doesn't really explain in an
I saw this tonight. I am not going to get into the detail right now. Let me just say....This is the best musical I have seen since Fun Home and before that The Light in the Piazza. ( I haven't seen Hamilton to be honest) I loved that it was an original story, not based on a book or movie. I don't care what negative things people have written here. Dear Evan Hansen will move to Broadway and next year Ben Platt will win the Tony. Of course it's so incredibly early, but t
I've been a huge fan of Charles Busch for decades. I didn't see him at the Limbo but I started seeing his shows right after he left the Limbo when Vampire Lesbians went off Broadway. It played at that little theatre near Washington Sq Park that NYU owns now. I think the best I have seen was the original production of The Lady In Question when it was at the old WPA theatre in Chelsea. 23rd Street I think. It was just amazing. Over the years he has had some hits and misses.
I thought the Times review was utterly unfair to this show. To the point of being snarky and petty. It's a shame because that review, as unfair as I think it was, probably turned a lot of people off from going . This show deserves to be seen. I don't know anyone involved in anyway with the show. It wasn't perfect, but it sure has a lot of great things going for it. That score! I think it is still running if anyone is interested. The review on the other chat board was very positive
Like I said from my post above... I attended one of the read-throughs in nyc. It seems the director was talented enough to elevate the material from awful to mixed reviews. It still isn't the Hazel I love.
I remember seeing the Gypsy run through of Will Rogers Follies on Broadway. No costumes, sets, lights...etc.... Stripped down, with nothing to cover it up, the book was really weak. I thought the show was doomed. I went back and saw it after it had opened, with all the
I think August Osage is inappropriate and a bad choice for high schools. The content makes it inappropriate and students in high school don't have the life experience to even truly understand the relationships or the situations presented in that play. Even if some of the actors do, most of the audience of high school kids will not. Yes, they know what a drug addict is but they don't really understand what addiction is about. They can't possible understand w
The NY Times lets readers respond to reviews. The only problem is, it takes about three days or more after someone has written a comment to appear on line. By that point, no one is looking at the review anymore. They don't really get that many comments for most shows. I have to wonder if they do this on purpose to make sure these views aren't read.
August Osage County and Lettice and Lovage (in my opinion) are not appropriate for any high school I've ever directed in, and I have directed in dozens of them. Changing parts from male to female in any play is rarely a good idea, and as noted.. You would need permission to do that.
I would stick with the plays on those lists. Also, check Playscripts.com They have tons of new great plays for high schools.
Has anyone else seen this? I thought it was one of the best scores I have heard in a long time. Just beautiful. Great orchestrations as well. There were some problems with the book, a little clunky at times, but it kept my attention. I thought it was a great production and a really lovely evening in the theatre. Just curious what other people thought. It's playing at the Sheen Center Blackbox theatre, which I thought was a great venue! I had never been there before.
Hamilton will win. It is based on a Novel but it is so uniquely different than the source material- (yet the same)
The Humans will be a finalist but it could pull off an upset. I think he should have won for Sons of the Prophet over Water by the Spoonful. They may take that into consideration.
Margorie Prime was a finalist last year. I thought it was a very mediocre play. I don't like science fiction though.
Why is dance showing up under Broadway listings? Last I knew HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM was not a Broadway venue. Nor is City Center. Maybe I have the wrong settings but I don't think so
I have been a member of AE for many years, and although I know they had some bad press a while ago, I have always found the selection pretty good. Their service is also pretty good. I've never had a problem in all these years. They have never messed up an order at the Box Office. Is Play by Play better?
I agree with Fantod... The Humans is a beautiful play: elegantly written and wonderfully performed. However, I did like Sons of the Prophet more. It should have won the 2012 Pulitzer over Water By The Spoonful. Easily.
It's just a little Broadway joke folks. I can always depend on DramaMama to be a downer. lol. I don't know what 96,000 means since I haven't seen Hamilton. I don't like to listen to shows before I see them.
This is the number of times I have entered the Hamilton Lottery and received the following message (with a different date of course)...
"Unfortunately, you were not selected to receive tickets to the March 27, 2016 3:00 pm performance of HAMILTON.
Please try entering again for a future performance."
Dear Lin Manuel... can you please arrange to fix the lottery so I can win? You can private message me for my email address. Thanks! I look forward to hearin
And Annie has a more specific, universal, upbeat theme... a poor young orphan who seemingly has the entire the world against her thrives and beats all odds because of her eternal optimism...... or something like that..... Hazel.. is well... just Hazel. And without the charm of Shirley Booth....
