Thanks, BWAYBaby2.  As a gay male, I've noticed that myself too.  I've observed it, but haven't really been on the receiving end of it.  What I say on here is opinion-based, and really pretty harmless.

Getting the psychological eval though on this opinion? And over so little? That was almost, well, funny.

I say that MS is a great actress and, because of that, has become so huge that's it's difficult for me to lose her in a role now.  I just don't get into her anymore like I used to. Simple observation and opinion.

And to get that kind of response. Simply mystifying.

I guess I just can't relate to negative-spirited people like that though.  So I won't get them, or relate.

But for the record, not caring for a certain actress or actor doesn't make you a negative person.  It's an opinion; nothing more, nothing less.  I know that negativity is often in the eye of the beholder though.  So some will see it where it doesn't exist.

At the end of the day there will be those who respond to my critique by:

(A) saying they don't agree. That this particular actress is great, they still love her, and totally get lost in the character she is playing.  She remains a chameleon to them.

or,

(B) calling me a soulless, negative cynic who has an "addiction" that can't be "overcome."

We'll have to let people decide which is the more rational approach to debating.

In closing though, allow me to apologize to these gentlemen. I didn't mean to offend them or hurt their feelings.  It was just an opinion.  Some actors I relate to; some I don't.  Simple really.

I can relate to what you are saying- personally, I don't like looking at Reese Witherspoon's chin- and I have not thought much of a lot of her movies- but, I do like most performers- especially ones who are really talented- and there are so many.  You know, I wonder why hostility and negativity is so easy to dish out- especially to people you don't even know- not a good thing for the person exhibiting behaviors that are outright rude- you would think a variety of opinions would be interesting and provoke discussion- maybe rude people think they can behave on a board like this with a free pass since there really are no consequences like there are at a job or in a personal relationship.

Agreed.  Before I joined, I read these boards some and noticed one poster had said a few months back that, as a college football fan, s/he saw more civility on NCAA rivalry boards.  Thought that was interesting. I would have thought a theater board would have brought out a little more positive decorum, even in disagreements.

But, whatever. It is what it is.   You come to learn who debates in your style (and is respectful), and who doesn't.  I guess you just bypass/skip those postings that you know can go to the negative.
