So I've read more than several posts that people are not a fan of this show. I never saw the London production or preBroadway tour but I love the show and wondered what the negative opinions are. I do agree the script isn't the strongest but I think it's an overall fun experience!
Also, is the preBroadway Tour include the production at Pittsburgh CLO??
It was horrible horrible horrible. You actually wanted to Lola to go away with the bad guy. It was like hell sitting there. I wanted it over. And I usually can find SOMETHING to like about any show. NOPE. Not this one.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
Was this based on the brilliant 1985 TV movie? Written by no less than James Lipton (yet another gem to add to his crown of great writing?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1D8-eyn7wo
Saw the pre-Broadway in May, 2001. Don't remember a thing, except that it amazed me that anybody thought this was something that should go to Broadway. Lipton and the 1985 TV movie are nowhere in the credits. The book (or what was supposed to be one)is credited to Barry Manilow, Jack Feldman, and Bruce Sussman.
