"I always felt that if Lincoln were a great president he would have held the country together. He would have found a way to prevent north and south from fighting. Slavery had to go. We know that. It should not have existed in the first place."
However, Lincoln's predecessors, James Buchanan and Franklin Pierce, who were largely responsible for the rapidly escalating state of affairs due to inaction, get off scot-free on Colyer's list. Pierce is listed at 31 and Buchanan at 33.
He puts William Henry Harrison, who literally died before he could even DO anything while in office, ahead of Carter, Nixon, Obama, LBJ, Grant, and Lincoln. Most historians don't even rank Harrison because the man died a month into office.
His... "paper" on the presidents is a joke, not unlike every other piece of writing on his site. Each president gets a blurb, full of unimportant trivia and personal non-sequiturs. For example, the one of FDR gets sidelined halfway through to give a short biography of Hitler (...surprise, surprise). He ends up writing more about Hitler than FDR.
Sometimes, it takes a stupid, stupid person like Jim Colyer, White Supremacist™ to remind you that there are really, really smart people in the world.
That comment about even a terrible president could avoid the Civil War brings to mind the writings of Ta-Nehisi Coates over at The Atlantic. He has been arguing for some time that the phrase 'the tragedy of the Civil War' is incorrect. The Civil War was not a tragedy. Slavery was. The Civil War, for as horrific it was, corrected that tragedy. He really has some extraordinary things to say on that and many other topics. Ta-Nehisi Coates
The Civil War was an inevitability from the country's birth. Washington foresaw it, as did others in the decades before the war.
The compromises made in the early 19th century served only to prolong its start, but never to prevent it.
The only tragedy of the Civil War is that it could only have been prevented at the start of the country, and even then it was nearly impossible to do so.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
lol I'm just seeing so many words about him here and next to nothing from the man himself. I sure hope he's not enjoy all this attention somewhere and laughing his head off.

He would have to be really, really masochistic, because some of the things said here are kinda mean. Obviously, Jim Colyer, White Supremacist and possible Masochist is repulsive and despicable in his beliefs, but some of the things said? Damn!
Jim Colyer is not getting the musical rights to A JEW GREW IN THE BRONX!
No thonx!
Despite how much each one of the engraved invitations cost, I insisted that my parents send an invitation Jo Anne Worley, care of Laugh-In, NBC Studios, Burbank, Calif.
Ms. Worley never even RSVP'd, which crushed me, but we can rewrite history a little, right?
In A JEW GREW IN THE BRONX, Jo Anne Worley shows up to my bar mitzvah and opens the second act with a dazzling comedy number.
But exposes him to who? All we sane people who already know that he's repellent?
He's not really keeping all this stuff secret on his Website.
Somebody as crazy as him reads all this stuff and thinks how crazy and sad we all are for not understanding.
I maintain it's just giving him the kind of attention he wants. None of these critiques or criticisms or sarcastic remarks, no matter how intelligent, well-reasoned, or biting, are sinking in.
Then again, I do the same thing with After Eight on a weekly basis.
So I suppose we're all crazy.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Ooh, I love those dudes who think that Lincoln was the worst for not preventing the Civil War. I mean, heaven forbid there be any violence associated with the institution of slavery!
Oh, right. Hundreds of years of violence against black people don't count; it's when white people start fighting each other that it all becomes a national tragedy.
ETA - Robbiej, thanks for linking to Coates on this subject; he's a brilliant voice of sanity.
