I generally don't support anyone doing this. And I also understand that it is a matter of personal taste...but wow. Elena, I am not a fan at all. I couldn't understand a word she was singing, and the supposed belt parts of A New Argentina, basically forced my collective person out the door. I know there's been tons of discussion about her on this board, but my question is...am I the only person who went out to the Marriott-Marquis pass-through and decided to not go back in?!?!?

Well, in my opinion. It would have been a better idea if you had stayed throughout the entire show. I was at the first preview and was very surprised by Elena (not in a good way). Still, there's a good show in the 2nd half. There are other talented people in "Evita", besides Elena Roger. (I've only left at intermission for one show "Spamalot", during a recent tour stop in Dallas. That particular humor escapes me.) from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

diebob, she's certainly no harder to understand than Penelope was in during "Call From the Vatican"! To be fair, I loved both performers quite a bit.

I understood Elena perfectly and thought she was great. I think people have the Patti recording emblazoned into their brains.

I am sorry you spent all that money, and left at intermission. I have seen the show, and had no problem understanding Elena. I thought she was great. I actually had no problem with Ricky either. I thought everyone in the cast was fantastic. The staging wonderful.

I just can't see spending the money to see a show, and not staying until the end. I have seen alot of dreadful things on Broadway and have never left. EVITA is definately not on the list of shows I wanted to walk out of.

Leaving at intermission is something I try not to do. I have left only four shows early. Local productions of The Wiz and Guys and Dolls, the 25th Anniversary Les Miserables tour, and Million Dollar Quartet.

I wasnt asking for sympathy or well wishes, and again some people may love her. The rest of the cast was exceptionally wonderful, yet when you have someone in a role that huge, I expect to be able to understand them. I don't know. It was my first time seeing the show, and I've never listened to Pattis recording so I went in completely green...and outside of her I really enjoyed everyone else. But moreover, I was asking if anyone had left the show at intermission..and perhaps was opening up dialogue to see if there are other shows people have left at intermission.

I didn't understand a word that Elena was saying either and I NEVER heard Patti's version. Lisa Brescia yes but Patti no.

I would never walk out of a show since I work my ass of for my money. And I enjoyed the company I was with when I saw Elena.

I almost walked out of Rent when I first saw it! But it grew on me during the second act. I saw someone walk out of wicked and they were front row.

I've only ever left one show at intermission, and it wasn't in New York.

But having seen this show -- even without Elena -- I'm not at all surprised you had leaving on your mind.

I have often been pleasantly surprised by Act 2 of many shows that I felt like walking out of. It gives closure as well, you may wonder what you missed by walking out.

Quite a few people walked out at intermission on Sunday when Elena and Daniel Torres were on. While I found them both to be horrendous, the rest of the show was beautiful and the ensemble was strong. Surprisingly, I was able to enjoy EVITA without enjoying Eva or Che.

Ive walked out of one show before and there are a few I wish I had. My TIME is mire important than my money and if I'm having an awful time, I'm not staying. No one should.

I saw the alternate and I wasn't thrilled with the show. I never considered leaving as I was with 100 other people. Alone I might have considered it. For me it's mire about ALW then the performances. Ive only enjoyed Aspects of Love

As long as you don't regret leaving, who cares? Life is short to feel tortured voluntarily. You know, unless you like that.

Fwiw..the only other show I've ever left early was Forever Tango..thank god west side exists..or else I'd think I was developing a Latin-inspired complex..Leaving Evita at intermission. I REALLY wanted to love this production of Evita...I REALLY did

Too bad Broadway isn't in a multiplex because they'd make no money off of you! LOL

He didn't get his money back, so I don't think his leaving would have any effect on the show's staying open (or not).

Well, he's entitled to his opinion. And he's far from the first person to not like Elena--and to say so on this board.

Apparently only Ricky Martin's vacation has any effect on the otherwise healthy box office.

Yeah because she's NEVER received negative feedback on here. Come on. Again I'm not "bashing" anyone. Did I like her in the show? Nope. But I am pretty sure I have the right to voice an opinion about not loving her in the show.
