I've never seen one of his shows, but I find many cast recordings of Michael John LaChiusa's scores (except for THE WILD PARTY, and I promise I haven't confused it with the Lippa version :P) incredibly, incredibly boring (e.g. HELLO AGAIN, LITTLE FISH, SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE).....I'm thinking about giving up with this man.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY in the most boring list..

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

There is boring, and then there is BORING! Aspects of Love remains THE most boring show I have ever seen.

Honorable mention goes to Passion and Meet me in St. Louis.

Light in the Piazza always tops my Most Boring and Most Disappointing lists because I went in with such high expectations.

Aspects of Love is a close second.

Fiddler on the Roof (Ironically that was my first Broadway show) some of Phantom, Singing in the Rain and I used to think Les Mis was boring but I don't anymore. Oh and A Little Night Music, even though I saw Bernadette Peters. She was the best part.

I love soaps, so it's probably not shocking that I love Aspects of Love.

My Life with Albertine would top my list. I saw a regional production outside Boston--all of which I can remember of being the audience giggles over the "tongue me" bit, and have tried to play the cast album a few times, but it doesn't stick.

I found the second act of Nunn's revival of OKLAHOMA! very boring-- it's a great show, a landmark show, but Nunn's direction of American musicals is almost always deadly. So I blame him, not Dick and Oscar.

-You must've been one of those ignorant critics who said Wicked would never make it on Broadway...lol. I'm so glad the investors and producers didn't listen to nitwits like you.

While it was very popular and long running, I found "42nd St" boring.

Meet Me In St. Louis is a snooze fest, probably due to it being essentially plotless. I agree with everyone who has said Phantom of the Opera. Christine is such an uninteresting heroine. I have never been able to bring myself to root for her. I remember being bored to death, as an eight year old, watching Of Thee I Sing. I think I would probably find a lot more to appreciate about it now.

I love Sondheim and Sunday in the Park has gorgeous music, but as a complete piece it's just not something that can hold my interest.

It's funny to read these lists and see two shows mentioned so often that I consider two of the best musicals ever written. Just goes to show that it's all subjective.

Love Never Dies
Leap Of Faith
Sunset Boulevard
Rent
Cats

I'm kinda bored with Wicked. I agree that it's not a show you necessarily find boring the first time you watch it, but after 2 or 3 times, it becomes dull. I just feel like this isn't a show that has much to offer once you've already seen it. It feels empty to me.

So far, of all the shows and times I've been to the theatre, only two performances out of all of them put me to sleep and so I consider to have been "boring," one partially and the other...total waste of life.

The honors belong to Wicked and By Jeeves, respectively.

^That...and the fact that some people just don't have taste or an ear for music. There's also those people who have grudges against wildly 'popular' musicals that have stolen the spotlight from their own favorites.

By the way, what were the two musicals you were talking about?

Then there's those people who are stuck in the past of old style musicals and can't seem to face the fact that times are a changing. It really kills them to see musicals like In the Heights and Spring Awakening win the Best Musical awards. I still remember hearing people on this message board when Next to Normal was nominated for best musical and especially when they won for best score. They couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that this type of music could actually win for best score. They were probably the same people who couldn't believe that Bonnie & Clyde got nominated for best score...lol.
