Could it be this afternoon at 1:30?

I can't see him committing to either pov at this point. Too early in the campaign, he'll need to size up how much a definitive position (either way) will cost him in the swing states.

I am curious to see what he is going to say though.

Don't get too excited. He'll just re-state his position again, in all its oxymoronic glory. Especially after yesterday's catastrophe in NC, which only proves that a majority of voters will VOTE AGAINST marriage equality.

I sent a online comment to the White House this morning asking for the president to make a strong statement supporting marriage equality, so I'm sure that's what he's about to do.

I saw someone post something to the effect that IF Obama does finally announce his support for marriage equality, it will be because he has finally had it made clear to him that he need never actually do anything to make marriage equality a reality in any real way.

Mark Halperin has predicted that Obama will support marriage equality in the interview. Unfortunately, Halperin is to politics what Riedel is to theater.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel - and since he's been craven about this issue for years I don't feel like there's anything wrong with feeling that.

What I do fear is that if he does come out in support of marriage equality, gay people are going to be blamed when he loses the election.

Here it is, folks:

OBAMA: I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.

I never thought it would happen. I am a little blown away, honestly. Sure, we'll hear about it if he loses now, but it was a bold move.

Well good for him. A major return to supporting the right position. Bravo Mr. President, for a change.

A very gutsy move in an election year (or any other for a president).

Say what you will about him, but it truly is a brave move. Think about it: marriage equality has never won a statewide referendum, and in a reelection year, he voices his support.

Yeah, I'm reconsidering my bitchiness about it, because I realize this IS a big deal. At least homobigots will have to stop saying "But I take the same position of same-sex marriage as President Obama."

I do wonder if someone will ask him how God got out of the mix.

I think the best way to show our approval of this move is with our wallets. I haven't given to his campaign yet, but I can't think of a better occasion to make a donation.
