Cameron Mackintosh has been forced to cancel the first preview of his new touring production of 'The Phantom of the Opera' tonight, claiming more “technical rehearsal time” is required.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical was due to open at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth this evening, but, in a statement, a spokesman for Mackintosh said: “The size and complexity of the production which is being put together for the first time has necessitated more technical rehearsal time to fully integrate the company and set safely.” He added that “several large scenic elements” could only be incorporated into the show for the first time this morning. Ticket holders for this evening’s show will receive a full refund from their point of purchase and are being offered the opportunity to attend a dress rehearsal of the musical tomorrow afternoon. Mackintosh’s spokesman added: “We regret the disappointment and inconvenience this will inevitably cause but trust that the public will understand that in such a new complex and spectacular production, safety is of paramount importance.”
The first preview will now take place tomorrow night.
Which preview do you mean? The open dress on Sunday and the first preview that was meant to be last night were cancelled but there is now an open dress this afternoon with first preview meant to go ahead tonight. Is this Sundays statement or a new one for tonight?
