I hope all you fan girls and bois crap your pants watching this then start screaming and crying begging your Moms and Dads to buy you tickets for an early Christmas or Birthdays because if you get them you swears you'll never ever ask for anything ever ever again (oh, and he's also the nicest guy in the whole wide world since he smiled at you at the stage door so he deserves such good things like this!)
The more interesting thing to me was Jeff Calhoun's series of quotes starting with "Thank god for Newsies!" and his comments about working for Disney. I couldn't decide if that was just an endorsement of Disney, or if he was getting a subtle dig in at the Bonnie and Clyde producers.
ETA: Jordan also confirmed it on his twitter. Lizzie Curry is going to yell at me, but I have no idea how to link to a specific tweet, so I'll just copy and paste it:
JeremyMJordan Jeremy Jordan Well, it looks like Broadwayworld leaked it... surprise? Updated On: 1/2/12 at 07:16 PM
Now come on, Jordan. Everyone knows Jeremy Jordan doesn't smile.

No, I wouldn't say it's a surprise at all but it could have gone either way. Jordan has a pretty big movie opening up this month and it's possible he's gotten other film offers because of it and might not have been available for a new Broadway show which will (probably) take up the good part of 2012 for him.
And given that he's going to be doing press for that film all weekend (wasn't he scheduled to be out of Bonnie and Clyde this weekend for that very reason?), I'm sure Disney was planning to announce his participation shortly, so that when he does all those interviews this week, and they ask him the inevitable "What's next?" question, he could answer with Newsies. Disney will get miles of free publicity this weekend without having to do a thing, now that he's confirmed.
I've seen Jeremy in West Side Story, Newsies, and Bonnie and Clyde. He's the real deal. Such a talent. BUT, I have a feeling, once Newsies starts on Broadway.....I may join Jordan in wanting to kick his fans in the teeth.
jenniferlynn, the only person i can think of recently that had originated 2 roles in a season was Jan Maxwell 2 seasons ago in The Royal Family and Lend Me A Tenor.
Jeremy seems a little mad on twitter. I understand this probably wasn't how he or anyone wanted the news to break but it wasn't exactly a big surprise to anyone. The interviewer did sort of trick Jeremy a bit because Jeff Calhoun did clarify his statement to say he expects Jeremy will be in Newsies but he wasn't making it official.
That said, break a leg.
Also, Jeremy, since we know you're reading this, relax with the criticism of BWW. About 95% of this board is enamored with you and B&C/Newsies seem to be pretty popular here.

Cynthia Nixon still gets the prize for doing two shows at the same time on Broadway. She was in Act 1 of one, and then ran across the street to be in Act 2 of the other. One was Hurlyburly. I forget what the other was (yeah, I could look it up).
Still, I can't think of anyone else originating two roles on Broadway at the same time.
