I enjoyed it but unfortunately Stiller, on the night I saw it, was the weak link. Falco really had nothing to play off of with him. Glad I saw Jason Leigh though. She was fabulous. And I got the magnet. :)
The grosses have been going down for the last few weeks. I presume the advances haven't been good - but have no information. I'll just watch my VHS taped version. House of Blue Actors
Kind of surprised considering the names in the cast, especially Ben Stiller. Personally, I think the play itself is horrible, so maybe this is the last we'll see of it for a while.
I actually love this play, but the production felt terribly flat to me. A rare misstep from David Cromer. Interesting to see someone else thing Leigh was he stand-out where for me she was the weakest link. She's such an interesting actor. I feel like I've seen her be brilliant or terrible--nothing in between. While I really didn't like her in this, I have never lost admiration for her intense commitment, even when I've been very disappointed by her choices.
I had tickets to see this on Jun 27th, so what happens to that performance? Guess I just get a refund? Am so dissapointed as was looking forward to seeing Ben Stiller on stage
Stiller and Falco must be making beaucoup bucks cause their grosses for a play were not bad...and the advance must be zilch. If this is closing, Born Yesterday must be bleeding tons of money as is Bengal
The House of Blue Leaves is one of my favorite plays of all times. But I couldn't make myself go see it after reading many, many comments by posters on blogs and by critics. I can easily ignore or read between the lines when someone simply says an actor wasn't good, but most of the interpretation of the script comments told me I wouldn't be able to sit through this "mess" of a production.
I picked this play purely for the cast. I had also read negative things about this production. I think the play itself is a very strange one and cannot say I enjoyed it all. I found myself laughing a lot (and many people had said this production was not funny) but overall it is not a play I can say I especially enjoyed as it was just a bit too dark for me. I thought all the performances were quite good. I enjoyed Leigh, Stiller and Falco. Pill was wonderful in her small role as well. I would consider seeing another production with a different cast to see if I enjoy it any more or less.
