"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

How could you possibly have interpreted what I said to provoke that response?

"TheatreDiva90016 - another good reason to frequent these boards less."<<>>
“I hesitate to give this line of discussion the validation it so desperately craves by perpetuating it, but the light from logic is getting further and further away with your every successive post.” <<>>

Capn, dunno what you mean, I was commending your proportional response. Namo, what on earth makes you think I'm an American, and why are you attacking Americans in general for what I've said?
I just found it amusing that PJ's first response was BwayBares. Last time I checked, Splash and the old Ritz (whatever it calls itself these days) is still around.
There must be some sort of bug. I don't see any reply from PJ on this thread. It shows I made the first reply, followed by ghostlight, then me again, then ghostlight, then TheatreDiva...

Oh. Nevermind. At first I only saw the picture, but now I see PalJoey's text above it. Makes sense now.

was the August Wilson theater affected by this at all??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I walked by the back of Roseland last night and the doors to the main room were open. I peaked my head in expecting to see the remenants of the burning of Atlanta - but nope, nothing. Not even the smell of burnt Broadway dreams. There were a few lighting men inside hanging some instruments, but the main venue looked completely undamaged.
Roseland Ballroom will be open as of tomorrow, according to a woman who just answered the phone there. Last night the venue caught fire, and while there were no shows happening and the building was vacant, the FDNY's Frank Dwyer tells us that seven firefighters were injured while battling the flames (all with minor non-life threatening injuries). He added that the cause remains under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshals.
The fire began at the mezzanine section, with a first call coming in to the FDNY at 10:28 p.m. (they arrived by 10:31 p.m.); by 11:46 the fire was brought under control. CNN has some raw footage from the scene last night.
If you go to the Dropkick Murphys' show tomorrow, let us know if it still smells like burning in there!
If they are allowing this sold out show to go on the damage must have been minimal and they are able to clean up quickly. Also the fire marshals must be finished with their investigation. Both Fire and Water are so destructive, and it took the Firemen over an hour to get it under control. It is surprising they do not have to cancel that show.
