Beautiful concert, though there were considerable sound issues throughout. Seems that the best acoustics in the NYCO come from the front orchestra and not the stage. Very bizarre.
Hopefully, they'll have tweaked the sound system for Sunday. It might have been me but I had trouble hearing a good portion of the lyrics. And I was in row G center orch. Loved, loved loved the last number.I was in a great spot for Make Our Garden Grow. With the cast across the stage and the chorus in the boxes on each side it was lovely. Not quite the sound and spectacle of "Sunday" at the Avery Fisher tribute. But a close second.I think Urie and Ebersole doing "Come Up To My Place" was the song I had the easiest time hearing the lyrics and it didn't hurt that they were such a great comic couple. As was O'Hara and Clark in "We Are Women"
Really looking forward to Vicky Clark's "Duet for One" fro 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I'm surprised they don't do "Bless This House," but I suppose there was so much to do, they had to cut a lot of good possibilities.
And the Quintet with Cheyenne as Tony, Kelli as Maria and Donna as Anita!
Sounds like they end it perfectly: "Some Other Time," followed by "Garden." There is nothing like hearing "Make Our Garden Grow" with a big chorus and orchestra. That moment when the orchestra drops our and it's just the voices a capella is one of Bernstein's most sublime moments.
What a wonderful concert! I was enthralled, especially during the Tonight quintet as well as the ending. This was such a treat and the major reason I'm happy to live close enough to NYC to be able to take advantage of events such as this. Actually, I enjoyed this as much as the Encores Anyone Can Whistle concert. Both will be remembered for a long time to come.
