And for those of you who were saying Matt looks "gaunt" these days, I beg to differ. That tight tee-shirt is telling me otherwise.

Well... those two guys look cuter than ever.

Does anyone know the reason they change the names of some characters in this play and not others? Was there a reason they couldn't use Jimmy Olson, Lex Luthor etc... The tone of this show annoys me anyway--though I know they use a new book.

Any DC comics characters that were not in the original book of the musical were changed to weird doppelganger names. DTC wanted to use those other characters, but were then told they weren't allowed.

Thanks Scarywarhol--I figured it had to be something like that. But I do think it's a weakness in the show. The characters are so familiar. IMHO the show lacks an audience--it doesn't please Superman fans and people who aren't interested in the comic don't care about the show. I know it's a new book but I've seen a few revisions of the show and they're never good. I will be interested to see if anything happens with this revival. It's always struck me as one of those shows that people want to be good because the OCR is so much fun, but it's just not a good show.

And, Cats..., I'm sure you could keep it running on Broadway by yourself.

If any of you know the incredible Joel Ferrell (and happen to live in the Dallas area), he is going on for Max at tonight's performance. Patrick Cassidy has been put on vocal rest.

I saw the show yesterday and it was very enjoyable. The sets, costumes, and effects were great considering their budget. Matt looks absolutely phenomenal in all of his outfits and not "gaunt" whatsoever. Jenny Power's performance was spot on, as was everyone else's. I do think this show has amazing potential if given the chance.

Also, one of my friends and I were the only people at the stage door after the show's matinee. Matt and Jenny signed and took pictures and Patrick Cassidy did as well, but was nearly mouthing his words. I had wondered if something was up, thank you.

The names were changed because DC Comics no longer owns a large portion of the rights to Superman. They have reverted to the heirs of the writer and creator of the character and in two years, the heirs of the original artist will get an equal share. It's all messed up.

The legal weirdness might have had to do with DC's decision not to let DTC use the names, but I don't think it was the direct cause. They still use every element of the Superman mythos in their comics on a weekly basis.

DC's ability to use the names for their own comics and their ability to license the property to other media are two completely different legal issues.
