How do you think 9 To 5 would have been received this season if it had opened now??

Would it have a better outcome at the Tonys?? Would it have gotten more recognition.. Would it have actually been nominated for Best Musical??

What are your thoughts?

I don't think that the reviews would have been any better, I don't think the Tony recognition would have been any greater.

It's crap no matter what season it opened in. So no, I don't think it would have changed it's life or award recognition.

If 9 to 5 cast members had tails, would they have been monkeys?

I think it would have done much better. The ladies wanted Elton over Dolly.

About the only season in which it would have done better would have been 1984/1985, and even then BIG RIVER would still have won the Tony.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Im following you Evan, I think it would have less shows to fight against and may have had a nomination....but then we may bring up what if Caroline or Change started this season would it WIN best musical or Side Show or even would Pirate Queen get nominated for best choreo...So many we could bring into this topic. It was a good season last year and 9 to 5 just ended up being cute rather than amazing missing its nomination

I mean there probably are a bunch of shows that could win best musical depending on what they are up against... I mean look at Next To Normal.. if it opened this year.. could it be a winner?

9 to 5 isn't "crap." It's not Shakespeare and it's obviously not trying to be. 9 to 5 is what it is: It's a fun, funny show that's just what we need right now. We need to have fun and forget about all the **** that's going on in our lives with the recession and everything, and that's what 9 to 5 does. It makes people forget because they have a great time at the show. Calm down.

Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, RENT, Mamma Mia!, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Evita (with Julia Murney), Hairspray (with Paul Vogt), Peter and the Starcatchers (with Christian Borle), Lion King, Altar Boyz, Legally Blonde (with Lauren Zackrin).

Way to full express your opinion without sounding like a 12 year old. I'm impressed.

You guys are telling angelxschunard that their opinion is completely wrong in a childish way. At least if you are going to do it do it well.

It's hardly crap (especially the score which I find to be incredibly charming). Is it the best show I've ever seen? Not by a long shot. But it's not crap. Crap includes but is not limited to High Fidelity, Tarzan, The Times They Are A-Changin', and Hot Feet. At least 9 to 5 wasn't inane in the ways those shows were.

Whether 9-5 opened this season, or last, it still would've been a major disappointment to me. Nothing NEW was added to that show, nor Young Frankenstein the season prior. I'm sure people will feel the same way about Addams Family now.

Even with the 'mediocre at best' songs and silly plot, I had a better time with the Addams Family than at 9-5 and Young Frankenstein combined.

Did they ever cut that "Just do it" line?

No, it would not have done any better. A bad show is a bad show, regardless of the season. Last year happened to be a strong one for new musicals, so 9 to 5 stood out in its badness. This year, it would just be one of many bad new musicals.

Phyllis, "Around Here" happens to be one of my favorite songs in the score. I don't think that rhyme you cited is a particularly bad one. And no, they didn't cut the "Just Do It" line since it got roars of laughter every time.

People's views aside it would have done better without a doubt. Dolly wouldn't be head to head with Elton and Rock of Ages wouldn't have been there to steal its Best Musical Nomination.

I'm all for fluffy feel good musicals...that aren't terrible. Yes, I've seen worse: High Fidelity and Brooklyn immediately come to mind, but 9 to 5 was just really not good. Maybe my level of disappointment had to do with expectations going in. It probably wasn't any worse than Memphis, but I found myself hating that less because I expected so much less. But no, I don't think it would have done any better this season. Though there is a dearth of great shows, there's no shortage of shows that are still better than it was. I am not including Million Dollar Quartet which, I mean...holy hell, who wrote that book?!
