I hate Allison Case...as a performer, obviously not as a person. I think she is quite delightful as a person. But, I have now seen her several times in HAIR and once in Mamma Mia as Sophie. I just think she is dreadful. I've gone on in the past on these boards about my dislike for her performances, but got bashed to no end. I just think she is over the top, distracting, silly, and very summerstock-ish (in the bad way).
"Somethin's comin', I don't know what it is but it is gonna be great!"
I have only seen her in Hair, so I have nothing to contribute. I've never thought she pulled away from the performance of any other actors. That her character is so alive and involved is a testament to her acting, IMO. (Although I can see why it might be detracting for others) I think she "lives" Chrissy to her fullest every moment she is on stage.
And then there's this point: if the director/producers thought her performance was "a show on its own" or stealing moments from the rest of the cast...they'd put a stop to it. Obviously, they like what she does with the part and in her performance. (but you are free to dislike her choices, naturally)
And "oh" to the fact that her comments about picking up her fanmail at the theater was about "last time before the holidays". Good clarification.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I saw Case when she was in Mamma Mia. When I was waiting at the stage door and she came out she was nothing but very friendly to those who were waiting. I said something to her that ended up being the starting point for a good long conversation and I thought it was nice that despite the fact that she got a phone call, she was nice enough to put that person on hold and still talk with me. I feel like most actors would use the fact that they are getting a phone call as an excuse to leave.
