There was already a thread about this somewhere, but ljay and I will both be there. I'm sure there will be others.

I can't believe we'll be their first public performance, as there was no invited dress.

Exciting.

Very excited about Angela Lansbury.

Not so much about Catherine Zeta-Jones. I hope she's out the day I see this show.

^ Apparently Catherine is brilliant. But why don't you just go on one of her 2 weeks off in the Spring?

RobinM, I honestly feel the same way about Catherine Zeta-Jones.

LOL, givesmevoice! I hated her with a passion in the movie Chicago. She acted like, "Aren't I the best singer and aren't I the most gorgeous and aren't I wonderful?" and all I could think the entire time was, "You cannot sing and you look like a drag queen (not that there's anything wrong with that)."

Ugh, I just don't want to sit in that audience and cringe as she pretends to be able to sing.

You clearly have very little understanding of Desiree and her music.

If people don't want to see Zeta-Jones, then do us all a favor and STAY HOME. Or go on one of her vacations. It's simple.

I actually think Zeta-Jones is a fairly decent singer, and an okay actress. She just doesn't come across the way I imagine Desiree, since I read her as being a little cold and smug. Unfortunately I can't plan on seeing the show because of finances, but I was intending to go see the show with her to see if I can be proven wrong.

The actress playing Desiree doesn't need to be a fantastic singer. And who CARES if the actress isn't the strongest vocalist (in any show)...as long as they act the hell out of it.

And how could anyone have disliked CZJ's performance in the movie Chicago? Can't sing? Are we deaf?

I know it's just an opinion, but really?

I Assume the stage door will be bombarded with people who aren't even seeing the show tonight to get memorabilia signed. I hope its playbills only!!! But since its the 1st preview it wont be decided right now.

She's a much better singer than most of the other actresses who've played Desiree.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Have they announced the cast yet?

I hope they don't bring over Hannah Waddingham - I think she's too young for the role.

And, let's please not review CZJ BEFORE actually seeing her, eh?

I edited the title of my other thread; this can become the official first preview topic (even though mine was posted before yours).

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
