Sutton Foster is SO wrong for that role it's not even funny. She can't even belt that high.

Aside from being wrong vocally, Sutton Foster does not have the dynamic presence to play Eva Peron. The role requires someone with a personality beyond being the bland girl.

Evita has to belt a G...and she has some low notes that Sutton Foster probably couldn't hit, either.

Sutton is always remembered as the quirky heroine because she hasn't been given any other roles besides those types of characters. But she won't do revivals so she will continue to be typecast

Sutton can't even sing the part. She's out of the question.

She's also about as exciting to watch onstage as paint drying.

I also don't think she could pass as a 15 year old.

If Sutton Foster is stereotyped as the quirky, funny heroine, why was she cast as Eponine in Les Mis?

Sutton Foster
A) Is Too Old
B) Has the wrong type of belt for EVITA
C) Does not have the range

She can not be Eva Peron.

Patti was 30
Elena was 32
Sutton is 34

How is that too old early-mid 30's can pull it off

Patti and Elena read younger than their ages. And

A) They Have the right Type of Belt
B) They Have the range.

I don't think Patti made a very convincing 15 year old, either. but that's besides the point. Sutton isn't right for Evita. it's not the end of the world if your favorite actor isn't right for a part, you know.

Elena still had the range (at some point). Sutton does not.

If you wanted an all perky version of Evita with a happy ending, I would say yes.DO it as a musical comedy & she nails the role.

She would also be dynamite in the musical of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane doing the Bette Davis role .

Bottom line, you won't be happy until everyone agrees to Sutton Foster as Evita.

I think Sutton Foster would be a terrible Evita in nearly every way, but I think she COULD pass as a teenage girl. Just not the kind of teenage girl that Eva Duarte is supposed to be.

If Sutton Foster is stereotyped as the quirky, funny heroine, why was she cast as Eponine in Les Mis?

Eponine is, technically, quirky and funny in the original novel, and she saves Marius' life, which I suppose makes her a heroine as well. Most actresses choose to play up her pitiful and tragic sides, but not all of them.

Evita is an iron fist inside a velvet glove. Sutton could be believed as the velvet glove, but not the iron fist.

You have to understand that the movie of Evita was a travesty with Madonna's music changed because she couldn't sing the original score and the material toned down. The stage version is more fierce.

That, and when she was cast as Eponine (understudy), she was pretty much Random Replacement Les Miz Ensemble Person #802324. She had no "stereotype" then.
