Oh boy, cue the replies saying, "Why is it closing?" "It's selling so well, they should keep it open!" "Will it extend?" "They made a mistake closing it" and so on. 
At least it'll go out with a bang.

I wouldn't be shocked if it pulled a Cyrano de Bergerac and announce it's recoupment after closing performance. I have to say that it's good to see the show kick some major ass this summer and it's closing weeks.

Posted: 8/18/09 at 1:01pmI highly, HIGHLY doubt it will recoup. My lighting teacher worked on building the show and told our class that its cost was far more than they told the public. And that its running cost was as well. It may have been making money, but not nearly enough to recoup.

Posted: 8/18/09 at 1:06pmLook back, there was a thread about this and the whole complicated process that ensued when Disney put The Little Mermaid on Broadway. The short of it is that the production budget was exceedingly high because of massive changes that kept on happening even before the show went into rehearsal. It won't recoup. Chances are it's not even close to recouping.

Posted: 8/18/09 at 1:47pmJust looking at Ticketmaster, there are tickets available, but very few. And you can really only find single tickets. So if you want tickets for one person or don't mind being seperated, you should look for tickets because there is only a small amount left.

I also doubt it will recoup. It's thriving during the summer months, but there's no way they can make up for all the money they lost during the slow months when they did poorly (same as Shrek).

Although it won't recoup I am glad to see it going out so strongly. The show wasn't the best, but it had a nice little run especially considering the economic struggles our country has been facing.
I wish the best of luck to the cast as they go on to pursue other projects!

Ah Im going to have to agree with BettyBoy I am pretty sure its some sort of last minute ploy to gaurentee selling all the tickets.
I was JUST at the theater this morning with a female friend who brought (conviently) "the last 2" Orchastra tickets for the August 29th 8 PM show.

Speaking of shows with impending closures, how are Avenue Q bookings? I still have this feeling that despite the media blitz, it's easier to catch it on a Monday. After all, in our culture, Monday nights are for staying in, not going out*.
* That's the rationale I get when people decline to meet me for dinner on a Monday night - even though it's their only chance to see me. I work at night, and my days off are Sunday and Monday. Maybe I should make friends with Broadway performers!

Posted: 8/18/09 at 5:50pmI tried to get student rush on Saturday and was told they are not selling student rush for the remainder of the run. But they did have Standing Room, which I got and it was totally worth it.
