Read the article, although they say the Xanadu tour was Cubby's idea when the producers mention it in their pitch to them in Episode Two. Playbill.com interviews CubbyUpdated On: 5/21/08 at 04:01 PM
1) I've been hard at work and capturing every minute of it - expect a new video at the end of the week, and a storm of new content next week. I've begun working with Xanadu and let me tell you, these people know how to have fun. You'll see what I'm talking about...
2) I'm putting together a little event for next Wednesday. Let's just say it involves me, a few hundred cupcakes, and some of my closest friends gathering outside the Helen Hayes theater for a good cause. More to come on that.
3) Finally, looks like I'm in Playbill (again). Check out the coverage below...
Did you guys see that figure behind Beth Leavel in her interviews? It looks like it could be an early model of the costume worn by the Drowsy Chaperone from the "As We Stumble Along" scene through the end of Act I. The pants and top look right, but the thing that drapes around her arms looks like a long, fur item instead of the fabric that was used in the actual show. ...Right? Go back and look at it and tell me what you think.

"I have been a hush hush for so long, and I have to say, the one thing I admire most about theatre people is their ability to keep secrets, respect privacy and honor personal boundaries," Cubby told Playbill.com.
Do you think this will really affect Xanadu's Tony chances?

Maybe. Many would argue it worked for Avenue Q. However, Avenue Q was seen as a "little guy" up against a juggernaut (Wicked), and Xanadu's main competitors (In the Heights and Passing Strange) are a lot more homegrown and personal.
I mean, think about it. Chris Ashley is the artistic director at la Jolla -- if he pulled that stunt, he would lose his job. The show is already booked with a Nederlander contract in Chicago -- are they going to get into a lawsuit with the Nederlanders?
Not to mention, DCBeane has stated publicly many times he wants his show on the road and NOT Vegas.
I was actually joking about the "V" bomb. But I think I would enjoy Cubby more if he was created to feature all of the nominated shows. How that would work I don't know, but it would be fun.
I have heard rumors that the tour may sit down in chicago.

I know this is late, but thank you for clarifying. I was a tad confused, because the casting announcement didn't include him, but then I saw it said "additional casting to come."
That's very cool. He might just be the reason I go see Shrek next year.
I know I'm badgering everyone with this Cubcake event, but it's only because I care....and because Broadway Cares! So come schmooze and eat some cubcakes with yours truly and the 'Du Crew!
