I'd have to go with "Till We Reach That Day" from RAGTIME as well...OMG the feeling that overcomes a person during and after that song is nothing short of cathardic.

Of course I also believe "The Best of Times" from LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is a song that is very Emotionally Charged. When Albin as Zaza breaks into song it may be to entertain the guests at Chez Jaqulene...but, the hidden message of love, support, and undersatdning from Albin to Jean Michele who is about to be wed to a woman, which Albin this is unjust in itself, is not only extremely powerful and emotioanlly charged, but extremely thrilling and rewarding all at the same time.

Everything from "Ragtime"
"Reach Right Down" from "Starmites" (good one!)
"Gods Love Nubia" from "Aida" (it sometimes gets its own ovation)
"One" from "A Chorus Line"
"Be Our Guest" from "Beauty and the Beast"
"Who Will Buy" and "Oom-Pah-Pah" from "Oliver"
"I've Got Rhythm" from "Crazy for You"
The Preacher and the Nurse" fron "The Last Session" (anyone but me heard of this one?

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

I just thought of another song that's great energy-wise.

"The Girl Gets Around" from Footloose. This guy I know is playing Chuck Cranston in a production I'm currently in of Footloose and he's friggin amazing! He's an excellent actor/singer/dancer and he great at the role of Chuck.

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

I second 'Another Day' from RENT. I love when the Life Support group turn to look at Roger and sing the "There's only us..." motif at him. And he is fighting against Mimi's message. I had a spine chill at that point.

Sidenote: I don't really class 'What You Own' as an ensemble number since only two characters sing it. It doesn't fit with the rest of the suggestions on this list.

Count me in on the "'Til we Reach That Day" bandwagon.

Also, when everyone except Cliff, Sally, Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider sings "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" at the end of the first act of "Cabaret" is a very disconcerting, uncomfortable moment in that show.

Till we reach that day from Ragtime indeed. And the courtroomscene from Martin Guerre. And what about "You're rocking the Boat"from Guys and Dolls?

"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness. Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings. Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end. But end it does. Another part of you vanishes. That's show business."-Anonymous

To those already mentioned from A Chorus Line, I'd add "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love."

There are many emotionally charged songs in Piazza, but many of them are duets or trios...

Instantly I thought of
Aiutami - The Light in the Piazza

A lot of what yall have said, and the lepers scene thats right after the timple scene, in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. I'm doing the show right now and that scene is so draining, being a leper and all!
